Scheduled Street Closures and Race Route for Sunday’s Nike Women’s Half Marathon

“The Nike Women’s Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, April 27th. The event will cause the closure of numerous roads in Washington, D.C. The event will begin and end in downtown Washington, D.C. For more information about the event, visit the organizer’s website at (http://www.nike.com/events/register/werundc). The following roads/locations will be closed at the specified times below:

6:00 am to 12:00 pm
Maine Ave at ramp to 395 south
15th Street between Independence Avenue and Maine Avenue
Independence Avenue between 15th Street and 23rd Street
Rock Creek Parkway from 23rd Street to Virginia Avenue
Ohio Drive from 23rd St. to Inlet Bridge
East Basin Drive
West Basin Drive
Haines Point
Memorial Bridge and Memorial Circle (reopened at 0930)

4:00 am to 12:00 pm
Parkway Drive”

“The Metropolitan Police Department and the Department of Transportation would like to inform the public of street closures in conjunction with the Nike Women’s Half Marathon scheduled for Sunday, April 27, 2014.

The following streets will close at 12:01 am on Saturday, April 26 for set up and will re-open at 12:00 pm, Sunday April 27:

Pennsylvania Avenue, NW from 14th Street, NW to 12th Street, NW
Pennsylvania Avenue, NW from 12th Street, NW to 9th Street, NW

Race Route

The race will start at 7:00 am and all streets will finish at 11:00 am:

· Start Route: 9th St NW and Pennsylvania Ave NW:

· Turn Left on Constitution Ave, NW

· Turn Right onto First Street, NW

· Merge Left onto Maryland Ave, SW

· Turn Right onto 3rd Street, SW

· Turn Left onto Pennsylvania Ave, NW

· Turn Left onto Constitution Ave, NW

· Turn Left onto the 9th Street Tunnel

· Merge Right toward 395 South/VA (exit 9th Street Tunnel)

· Merge Right toward Maine Avenue, SW

· Turn Right on 15th Street, SW

· Merge Left on Independence Avenue, SW (Westbound Lanes)

· Turn Right onto 23rd Street, SW

· Turn Left into Lincoln Memorial Circle

· Enter Memorial Bridge

· Enter Arlington Memorial Circle

· Exit Arlington Memorial Circle

· Exit Memorial Bridge

· Turn Left on Rock Creek Potomac Parkway (sand volleyball courts)

· Turnaround (Clockwise) on Rock Creek Parkway at F Street, NW

· Merge Right onto Ohio Drive

· Continue on Ohio Drive @ Ericsson Memorial

· Cross Inlet Bridge/East Basin Drive

· Continue South on Ohio Drive SW into West Potomac Park

· Continue around tip of Haines Point

· Continue on Ohio Drive SW turning Right upon exiting park onto Ohio Drive

· Turn Right onto Maine Avenue, SW (Eastbound Lanes)

· Turn Left onto 9th Street, SW

· Enter 9th Street Tunnel

· Turn Right on Constitution Avenue NW/Exit 9th Street Tunnel

· Turn Left on 6th Street, NW

· Half Marathon finishes at 9th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

Motorists traveling in the area of this event may experience delays and should consider alternative routes, if possible.”

826DC is a local nonprofit that offers free writing programs, homework help, and publishing opportunities for DC students ages 6-18, in our Columbia Heights writing center and in learning spaces across the city.
