3418 11th Street, NW

Back in November we learned of Maple’s plans to expand into the former Columbia Heights Coffee space on 11th Street. They’ve now applied for a liquor license on that space:

“Applicant is requesting to expand to the adjacent ground level space increasing the seating capacity to 66, use of the second floor with 18 seats and increase outdoor seating capacity on side walk cafe to 34 seats.”

1065 31st Street, NW

Also in November we learned that Il Canale would be taking over the former Cannon’s Fish Market space next door. A recent liquor license application for their expansion says:

“Retailer Class “C” Restaurant with occupancy load of 88 including ENTERTAINMENT, SIDEWALK CAFÉ and SUMMER GARDEN. Requesting to expand into 1065 31st Street, NW. 1st and 2nd floors Seating to 56 and Sidewalk Café increase to 30 seats. Summer Garden increase to 150 seats. Increases total Seating Occupancy Load to 442.”

This is great! Any updates on that Filipino restaurant that’s supposed to open up next to Room 11?

Yay Maple! 11th Street: the only classy part of Columbia Heights.

I can’t speak to those neighborhoods, having never lived in them. But the 14th Street part of Columbia Heights between Fairmont and Monroe is just the worst.

        snobby. sheesh.

I agree with you 100%. I don’t even really feel safe on 14th St. Hoodlums outwardly harass people as people walk around the plaza (while cops sit in their cars!) and then as you go up 14th it only gets shadier and shadier. Red Derby is ok, but the people “hanging out” on the street are not the nicest people.

I’m glad to hear about Maple. The wait is always way too long for me. I finally had an early dinner there and really enjoyed it.

Happy to hear that Il Canale will be getting a little roomier. Love their pizza.
