Unfortunately the listing only says Mt. Pleasant, not an exact address, but I’m a sucker for sweet vestibules (and Mt. Pleasant) so here goes:

“Character filled Mount Pleasant home next to Rock Creek Park, Cleveland Park, Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights and Woodley Park. Beautiful original woodwork from 1910 with modern updates. This lovely home is located on the best block in Mount Pleasant, has a nice private back yard, and backs up to a privately maintained garden. Stainless appliances, two decks, full basement. Second level deck has a clear view of the cathedral.”

You can see more photos here.

This 2 bed/2.5 bath is going for $3,950/Mo.

  • Yeah I love those subway tile mudrooms / vestibules. The place I wanted to put an offer on in Bloomingdale had one almost identical to this one, same color tiles and all. I like the old pocket doors here too.

just curious, but why’d you decide against the bloomingdale spot?

      • I liked the place, she didn’t.

funny how things work out ;-)

Fortunately there are thousands of similar rowhouses around DC with the same sort of tiled vestibule. They were very fashionable for a period of time.

I absolutely love the woodwork and original light fixtures!

I love this house, but isn’t that price kind of steep?

That house is on Monroe by 19th St. There’s a partially hidden stairway on 19th by Park Rd that accesses that little alley and garden in one of the photos. It’s a great neighborhood.

I didn’t know there was a best block in Mt. Pleasant. I’m not sure which block that would be.

I’ve always been partial to Hobart, myself, but lived on Kenyon for years.

      1800 block of Park Rd.

    It’s 1882 Monroe.

Granted, this lists a higher rental price (as if $3,950 wasn’t steep enough), but it appears to be the same house: http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1882-Monroe-St-NW-Washington-DC-20010/466066_zpid/

Includes a few more photos, too.

Nothing not to like about house or location, but I say that from an ownership perspective. I have a hard time justifying shelling out that kind of cash for rent, and for the joy of renting a nice mudroom and woodwork. I suppose if someone just needed a 1-3 year rental it might work. Also, a famiy with children relying on local schools might prefer to rent WoP.

My guess is the owner is trying to get someone who is in DC on a temporary assignment and has a housing allowance (U.S. or foreign diplomat, IMF/World Bank employee, corporate employee here in the DC office, etc.)

The place looks absolutely beautiful, but that price is insane, even by DC standards.
