Thanks to @NanksH for tweeting us:

“Baja Fresh on 19th, south of Dupont, supposedly closed for good last Friday (1/17).”

I called Baja Fresh and they confirmed their Dupont location next to Buffalo billiards (technically located at 1333 New Hampshire Ave, NW) had closed.

I guess I’m kinda at fault. I’ve worked across the street from this location for two and a half years, and I’ve never been. Oh well.

Noooo! Sure, it’s not gourmet cooking, but this was a reliable place for me. The staff were very nice, too.

I said it last month about Dupont and I’ll say it again, there is a clear decline in filling the commercial space in this part of town.

And Potbelly closed just north of Dupont too. When even semi-nicer-ish fast food places can’t make it in Dupont, you know the neighborhood is in decline

Yep. And thriving semi-nice fast food places is a pretty low bar to begin with.

seriously – dupont may not be as hopping as the logan 14st corridor, but I doubt its on decline. look at any recent reports on real estate trends – its the top selling neighborhood in the city. I think the demise of some of these fast food restaurants may be a good thing. It opens the space and opportunities for entrepreneurs to come in and liven up the hood.

I only ate there maybe once a year, but I will miss their conveniently-placed bathrooms. Any other ideas for places with easily accessible restrooms within a block of the circle??

Never been to that location, but I go to the one at 20th and I pretty regularly. They always seem to do good business.

Huh. I’m surprised. There always seemed to be people in there. I wonder if it was a volume of business issue or a high rent issue, or something else.

I’ll miss that Baja Fresh. It was one of the few fast-casual places in that area where there wasn’t a massive line at lunch. Hmmmmm, maybe that’s why they had to close. Seems like you can’t survive in Dupont if there isn’t a 20-minute line out the door for lunch. Poo.

I used to eat there fairly regularly when I worked in the area but hadn’t been there in a while. I’m not completely surprised but will miss it as its one of the few chain fast-food joints I actually patronize.
