Reader Reports Car Jacking and Car Crashing into a house Sat. Afternoon

“Dear PoPville,

I was looking at condos on Saturday afternoon in Bloomingdale (near Dunbar) when a car raced past and slammed into a house [1st and Bates St, NW] while trying to make a left turn. Three kids jumped out of the car and went running into the neighborhood. What was really strange was that there were two cop cars following them but the cops stopped before reaching them and then turned away from the direction the kids ran in – and didn’t stop to see if anyone got hurt by the car slamming into the house. Another cop showed up awhile later but it seemed really strange the cops wouldn’t do anything while they were on the scene. Do you have any insight?”

MPD avoiding paperwork for a “joyride”? Doesn’t seem odd to me.

    1. Join your local MPD district listserv (I think that’s 5D, which is http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/MPD-5D/info)

    2. Ask the question there. If you don’t get a response, you can contact the District Commander.

    3. If you don’t get a good answer, there is an Office of Police Complaints.

but I bet you’ll get an answer. Councilmembers and ANC folks read the listservs, so cops want to respond promptly. And I find that the commander in my district is very prompt and easy to reach on email.

There are some really bad actors down at that corner of NY and North Cap. Can’t wait until the NoMA development pushes them all out. Yep I said it.

These people aren’t going anywhere. Unless you go Dresden-style on the public housing projects.
        They’re there forever.

What time did this happen? I emailed MPD and they want to know the time so they can give more info

    • OP

It was around 4:30. Thanks for looking into it.

why do they need to know the time it happened “so they can give more info”? Did more than one accidents like this happened on the same day?

so they can know what time it happened.
        read it again.
at what point do you think it was reported?

        • OP

Not sure it was reported but there was a cop there within 15 minutes or so and not long after the car was getting towed.
