its just amazing how fast he can put a mural that size up… he did the one on Kuumba Collectibles (sp?) in like two days.

That’s great! More murals from Mr. Udofia!

That’s cool! Love the ’70’s style. Anybody know the significance of the stubby pencils in the mural, though?

Ive seen a few of his other local murals and they all had the pencils in them

i was assuming it was a play on stressing education or something

Pencils are a running motif in Aniekan’s work. I personally think it’s a play on the pen(cil) being mightier than the sword and choosing art over violence (i base the latter interpretation on his series of paintings where pencils take the place of weapons). You’d have to ask Aniekan for his take, though.

LIke it. Good use of color and shapes.

why is Heineken interested in murals? public image i guess…? they want to be “hip and cool”? just curious.

    • Anonymous

the question is silly. it’s marketing. pretty basic.
lots of companies support the arts this way. and it’s because they have someone “hip and cool” on board with the decision making process.

I’d rather see this mural than a massive Heineken billboard on the side of this building.

You got to pick and choose your battles. And artists need to put food on the table.

Right – the answer to this is rather obvious. Personally, I’m all for it. (Besides, it’d be very very easy to remove that tiny Heineken mention if one were so inclined… )

Aniekan is my favorite muralist in the city. I hope he keeps getting hired again and again…

  • Anonymous

Is this the same muralist who did the one on the side of Mama Ayesha’s?

  • Anonymous

Not my favorite from Aniekan but that’s just because he’s so good and I have many to compare it to. He’s following in the footsteps of a much lesser known DC muralist Demon 202, would love to see these two do a production together. NSFW http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp_GXpUdayU
