Around 6:15pm I got a series of emails and tweets. @Sandi tweeted:

“15+ cop cars just sped past @TheWonderlandDC going north. Know what’s happening?”

Update from MPD:

“At approximately 610 pm a citizen was carjacked by an unidentified male displaying a gun at Georgia Avenue and Harvard. Minutes later, a 3d officer got behind the vehicle taken and a short pursuit began. Additional officers were able to respond to the area and the pursuit ended in the 1500 block of Ogden Street with the arrest of the wanted subject and a recovery of the car and handgun believed to have been used in the crime.. There were no injuries to anyone and as a result of the great actions of the officers and civilian witnesses, tonight we have one less criminal on the streets. Thank you…..”

I was standing at 11th & Park where the suspect almost t-boned a Honda CSV with two ladies in it. The guy appeared relatively calm as he sped through Columbia Heights. It was definitely a close call though. The massive police turnout made me think he killed a cop…

I think I saw the end of this. A little before 8 I walked past that block and there were lots of bike cops and police cars pulling up. I saw at least 5 officers.

    Well done, MPD!

Anyone know what kind of vehicle the guy jacked? Just curious.

One of the many reasons I drive a manual is I feel (rightly or not) like it is less likely to get stolen or have someone try to jack the car.

Not that carjackers knock on the window and ask if you’re driving a manual or a dual clutch automatic, but hey, I feel good about it.

I saw the chase in progress on Otis Place and the guy (who I also thought looked strangely calm given the fact that he was being pursued by several police cars) was driving a sort of beat-up, older looking, black sedan type car. Nothing fancy.
