Dog Found by Stanton Park

“Dear PoPville,

My wife and I found a stray pit bull on Maryland Ave NE- just past Stanton Park.

He is incredibly friendly but in rough shape. Appears to be no more than 6-8 months old- he is neutered. No collar besides the prong collar and he has some wounds on his backside.

I’m giving him to animal control as I can’t really bring him home to our pup. They are bringing him to NY ave shelter if anyone is looking for him or needs a new friend.”

Sorry to say that bringing a pit bull with wounds on his backside to the NY Ave. shelter is an automatic death sentence. He came from a dog fighting ring. This happens all too often and I wish it would stop.
Pls. contact the Pit Bull rescue and see if they will accept the puppy. They get inundated with requests but a friendly puppy may still have a chance.

    • You don’t really know that information is true unless you are working there now. An automatic death sentence… like they will shot the dog in the lobby or something.

If that pic is the lost dog then that is someone’s pet. That is no fighting dog. Wounds on his backside could have resulted from anything.

I agree with Dianne – I have heard only good from WH lately.

Since you are so aware, how about you save the dog.

You should really get into the practice of stepping away from the computer for five minutes and then re-reading what you’ve typed before hitting the Post button. No need to be so nasty and condescending all of the time.

  • Hmm. I think Wash Humane has changed a lot in the past few years. Remember, they rehabilitated the little pit who was thrown in the trash with dog fighting injuries, Trooper, and then sent her to Animal Farm Foundation. They also sent Ivan, the little pit who was stolen, to AFF. And WARL sent two pits to them (AFF) that were too shut down for a normal shelter.

We have a female pit mix and several cats. They all live together in harmony. If you think the poor pup can get along with our tribe we would be willing to adopt him. Please let me know.
