Solar Party and Solar Tour

Date: Friday August 5th
Location: 4700 14th Street, NW
Time: 5:00-9:00 PM

Dear Solar Supporters. Summer is here and the sun is shining. We have fought many battles this year and won a few big ones! It is time to celebrate, mix, mingle, take stock, brainstorm and talk about what should we do next to make DC the most solar city on the planet! You are invited to a BBQ / social. The party is being hosted at 4700 14th street by Solar Solution, an installer located in the heart of Petworth! Come meet other solaristas! This is an open party for the entire solar community– members of DC Sun, members of the DC Government, Council Members, Solar Installers, local and national environmental leaders, policy and industry folks not to mention curious and interested residents! Please invite your friends and neighbors to join you so that we can make DC a green community.

We want to especially encourage Petworth and other Ward 4 residents to come out and join the fun– as we push to strengthen the Petworth Solar Coop. For more info about the Petworth Solar Coop contact Maria Wilson mailto:[email protected]

TOUR: We will have a small solar tour of Petworth based solar installations– before the party. If you are interested in participating in the solar tour RSVP [email protected] There are several residential installations and a few commercial installations that we will be able to show that are within walking distance.

FOOD and DRINK: We will be cooking hot dogs, hamburgers. Please bring a side dish, salad, dessert or something for the grill. Join the solar fun!

“Dear PoP,

On my walk to work this morning, I saw new fencing going up around the formerly bemuraled horses ass nominee at 9th & Q & Rhode Island streets in Shaw.

DCRA shows a new permit pulled for interior demolition in preparation for renovations. The long vacant property was sold in November, and a permit was pulled in March for door and window replacement, but this is the first major activity I’ve seen. As a neighbor, I’ve been waiting a long long time to see this!

With O Street Market apparently (and seemingly perpetually) on the cusp of breaking ground, Addison Square reportedly announcing something in the next two months, the home that you featured on the SW corner of 9th & Q being rehabilitated and a half dozen other homes within a block of here under serious renovations, there is a lot of activity in the neighborhood.”

Great news! These are gonna (hopefully) be some great before and after photos. Stay tuned.

If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool with your pets name and neighborhood. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best.

“Dear PoPville,

It’s my first time applying for an apartment from a management company, and I was just informed that there would be a $500 move-in fee to clean the apartment before I can enter the property, in addition to the $45 application fee. Is this standard operating procedure? I always thought that clean up was the domain of the landlord and to be paid out of the rent/security deposits. It seems rather exorbitant to me, and makes me want to pass on this place.”

$500 sounds high to me – what do you guys think is a realistic move-in fee?
