The Craigslist ad says:

“$1150 – Large, Sunny Basement Apartment in row house with private patio available 8/1

The basement apartment has its own private entrance, bathroom, large closet, and kitchenette. The basement comes with its own backyard and patio — perfect for a summer barbecue!

The house is located on Hall Place, the best street in Glover Park. Starbucks, CVS, Whole Foods, Town Hall, Bourbon, and Surfside are all steps away. Seven blocks to Georgetown University and the Hospital. Catch the bus to American University, Tenleytown, Dupont Circle, M street, Foggy Bottom, or Downtown.

Two young professionals live upstairs. The house also has a shared washer/dryer as well as wireless internet and DirecTV.

One year commitment strongly preferred. Sorry, no pets.”

$1150 sound right?

Wow is that kitchen tiny. And I would hate to sleep RIGHT by the door. It would freak me out to no end that some intruder could just walk in while I was sleeping. I am paranoid like that, however.

That said, I think it’s a fair price for what it is.

At least make the bed before taking pictures!

CL people never cease to amaze with their cluelessness about basic marketing. Some of the car ads are a riot.

Basement, studio, not full kitchen, not metro accessible, utilities not included, almost 1200? No.

There is a bus that comes by about every 3 minutes. Public transportation is great there.

I’ve lived this situation in which the upstairs people walk thru your living/bedroom with their piles of dirty laundry. And forget to retrieve it when you want to do yours. Don’t advise it!

Hmm… I’d hope that the shared washer/dryer is in a common area (hallway) that’s separate from the apartment area. (That’s the setup in my house, where I’m hoping to add a kitchenette and rent out the basement someday.)

If it’s not and the owners would indeed be walking through the renter’s space, then that does sound like a pain.

It’s fairly clear from the photos that this place is neither large nor sunny. Oh, and it’s a basement studio, that’s another clue.

Note the clothes hanging in the living room and hallway. Does this apartment have closet space and if so, why would the owners show a photo that provides evidence to the contrary?
