The 5pm Post – Fundraising Auction for Dinner at KAZ Sushi Bistro for Japan Relief

From an email:

On March 11th, a 9.0 earthquake triggered a 30-foot tsunami that damaged several nuclear reactors in northeastern Japan, causing the country’s worst crisis since World War II. A local DC Chef’ s Club has joined forces to support and raise money for the urgent need of disaster relief in Japan. Starting Friday March 18, 2011, a series of donations will be auctioned off on eBay by more than 20 local businesses. Earlier this week Chef Kaz Okochi, who was born and raised in Nagoya, Japan, reached out to the DC Chef’ s Club for help and the response was overwhelming. Chefs will auction off brunch, dinners, tastings, classes, and even hotel stays on eBay. The auctions will last for one to two weeks and they will continue to accept additional donations. Winning bids will be donated to The American Red Cross.

The first online auction to start the series will be KAZ Sushi Bistro, offering a tasting menu for 2 people including KAZ private brand sake or beer. The bidding will start at $50 here on ebay.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
