Should 14th, Oak and Ogden Triangle Park Feature Food Vendors and Planned Events?

We saw a rendering of plans to improve the park from DPR a week ago. A few days ago I had the opportunity to listen to some ideas about how to improve the park from Hector of the Tivoli North Business Association. He had some great ideas but one that I thought was particularly interesting was to replicate the triangle park in Adams Morgan on Columbia Road:

We visited the Adams Morgan Market back in Sept. ’08.

In addition to a market there could also be space for musicians and/or artists.

Do you think that type of market could do well at the 14th and Oak Streets, NW Park?

During the recent neighborhood yard sales, my friend and I were set up on this triangle. We got LOTS of comments from people saying that they thought the neighborhood should do more stuff in that triangle.

Agree. I think this a great idea.

Anything would be better than the drug dealers who set up shop there (and near there) now. It’s a great little location, there is a lot of diversity and hipsters in that area that could support a lively open air (not drug) market.

I don’t think this triangle should be made into another commercial location. Instead, install a water (drinking) fountain, and replace the bricked area with more vegitation. I’m thinking model it more like the triangle at Park and Mt. Pleasant or 17th & T Streets . Maybe also put in something people could actually do (instead of just sitting on benches) – such as a swing-set for kids, an exercise station for joggers, a historical marker for people who want to learn about the area.

The Mt. Pleasant one is also brick.

      • DCster

Yes, Mt. P is partially brick. I didn’t mean to suggest they replace the entire brick area at Oak and Ogden, but just think there should be a better balance between the brick and vegitation (like Mt. Pleasant’s triangle).

Unfortunately, that is DC Parks & Rec land, and you can’t vend on it. I don’t know what the deal is with the Adams Morgan triangle, but at one of the Triangle Park meetings, the Parks & Rec lady specifically said this wasn’t possible.

A lot of people would like to see more community events there, like BBQs & block parties, but the current plan doesn’t include an electrical outlet, due to cost issues.

Anything is possible if enough support is voiced. It may be difficult but it’s def. possible.

Meth Clinic, Community Center, Kite Store or Emergency Diabetic Urinal…

It belongs to the community, not the evil small businesses!!!

God, I live across the street, and I can say any change would be an improvement. Lots of shennanigans and hijinks going on there.

yeah, i’d say anything is an improvement over robberies or stabbings. most recent fun on that block was last night.
