Parakeet Found – PoPville Citizens Going Above and Beyond

40a60a5286bd

“Dear PoP,

My roommate was on her way to work around 1:30 PM today and came across a parakeet at 14th and Buchanan St, NW, in a pine tree directly next to the Metro Bus Terminal / Depot.

It could fly pretty high – but not for long (3 of us chased it and shook the tree branches until it decided to go to the ground.) This bird tree-hopped about 10 times before it decided to come down to the ground, and once it was there, it seemed more curious than afraid, especially since we had bread and matzos to bribe it with. :-)

This bird is very domestic and although wary, not afraid of humans. I have no idea what sex it is, but we were able to catch it with a cracker and by tossing a light shirt on top of it. It is fine, but we have no cage and are currently holding somebody’s pet in our bathroom downstairs, it has eaten food and drank from a water cup while being held in a plastic laundry basket with a thin piece of board on top of it. .

We spent about an hour catching this bird and we want to keep it safe and find its owner, who must be worried sick. Also, we are a “band house” which means no band practice with a sweet little parakeet in the basement.”

If this is your bird please email me directly at princeofpetworth (at) gmail (dot) com and I’ll forward your info onto the good Samaritans.
