From emails:

“Local 16, and a group of friends calling our organization Do Good, Feel Good DC (DGFG), will host an event called Friday for Haiti to benefit Oxfam America’s Haitian Earthquake Response Fund. The cause is especially personal to DGFG because one of our members was born in Haiti and his family is among those in need of help. One-hundred percent of the proceeds generated from the $25 admission price and 10 percent of the evening’s bar tab will go directly to Oxfam America.”

After a hugely successful first event, Nerd Nite DC is returning to DC9 on January 23rd.

If you missed the first one, you may be wondering what exactly is Nerd Nite? Nerd
Nite DC is a new monthly event in which nerds and non-nerds alike gather to meet,
drink and learn something new. It’s an informal gathering at which people get together
to hear presentations that will blow your mind. Armed with a microphone and their
trusty PowerPoint slides, some of the smartest people in DC will prove to be the most
interesting. The only requirement is that presentations must be absurdly entertaining.

The January event brings you a whole new onslaught of nerdery, with presentations
about the brain on fear, DC-area cemeteries, and the history of volcanic explosions,
complete with an erupting science project! All presentations feature musical interludes
by the DC-based The Torches and a portion of the evening’s proceeds will go to benefit
Horton’s kids, a DC-based educational charity.

So, if you were busy recalculating π last time and missed it, or if you are just anxiously
awaiting the second, get out your glasses and polish your pocket protectors, because its
time to learn!

Nerd Nite: It’s like the Discovery Channel with beer.

Tickets are available for $10 at the door, or in advance at:
