Shouldn’t it be Wunder Garten? Also, cover charge? No thanks.

    • Agree. Cover charge? No thanks. Plenty of other places I can go.

    • That’s probably for the dates when they will have dance parties and bring in live music. Even if they only charge covers 10 days out of the year, they still need to indicate that on their application and receive approval. My guess is that it will be no cover most days after work and on the weekends. Special events will have a cover charge.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a cover charge as long as you’re getting something out of it (such as live bands performing). Those acts don’t just volunteer their time for free.

    • Also, the cover charge allows them to rent the space to an outside group/promoter who might want to charge a cover for entertainment, a fundraiser, etc. This is all standard liquor license stuff.

      • Also also, where are you going to go? Timothy Dean Burger? The Hilton Garden Inn? Potbelly? The closest bar to this place is Kelly’s Irish Times.

        • You could walk a few blocks north and hit up The Pub and the People, which will be open by then. It’s about a ten-minute walk. You are then within three blocks of Red Hen, Costa Brava, Big Bear, and El Camino.

          • Can’t wait for Pub & People. I guess I meant more for office folks in the area that may need to metro home after work but want to grab a drink beforehand. Those bars are super convenient for me but not everyone lives in Bloomingdale.

You really think someone is going to pay a $5-$10 cover to grab a drink after work? Most people are looking for cheap happy hours after work. It seems like a cover would be the opposite. That said, I can’t speak to the other comments about needing to put it in for license purposes even if you don’t plan to charge it regularly. Having lived in a city where pretty much everywhere charges covers (Boston), it gets old really fast. I hope it doesn’t catch on down here.

      • Correct. It’s essentially a reservation of the right to institute a cover charge at some point. It doesn’t mean they’re necessarily going to, but if it’s not in the application now they’ d need to file a substantial change application down the line; which is a waste of time and money and gets the ANC and neighbors involved for no good reason.

    • I’m pretty sure this is also the place that is going to be kid friendly. Cover charge, and screaming kids? No thanks.

  • what is the date of the ABRA hearing??

  • Fair point on bars for after-work commuters, although they really should all just move to Bloomingdale or Eckington anyway.
