3232 Georgia Ave, NW

From an email:

“Grand Opening Celebration
Date: March 20, 2015
Hours: 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Attire: Business Casual

Purpose: Welcome you to my new studio home & celebrate this milestone that the Bikram Yoga Capitol Hill community; DC Government, Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development/Great Streets Initiative; Neighborhood Development Company; Design Republica; Family; and close Friends have helped me to accomplish. This is my opportunity to convey my profound gratitude to you as we welcome Bikram yoga to the Petworth/Columbia Heights and Shaw communities.

Location: Bikram Yoga Petworth, 3232 Georgia Avenue, NW, Suite 105, Washington, DC 20010. Located between Lamont and Kenyon streets.

Metro lines are Green and Yellow. Both Metro stations, Columbia Heights and Georgia Avenue/Petworth, are within 5-6 blocks of the studio.”

Ed. Note: While I loathe debating neighborhood boundaries, I did mention to the owner that even I don’t call this far south on Georgia Ave Petworth. Having said that – happy to hear they are opening!

  • LOL, PoP! “Ed. Note: While I loathe debating neighborhood boundaries, I did mention to the owner that even I don’t call this far south on Georgia Ave Petworth.”

    • Welcoming Bikram yoga to the communities of CoHi, Petworth, and Shaw neighborhoods isn’t claiming that it is located in Petworth but rather it is accessible to residents of those communities. At least that’s how I read it.

      • Hmm, that’s true… but why are they omitting the name of the neighborhood where they’re actually located? I know Park View doesn’t have as much name recognition as the others, but still.
It probably would’ve been best to say just “as we welcome Bikram yoga to the area,” since later on, the press release mentions the Columbia Heights and Georgia Ave.-Petworth Metro stations.

      • The name of the place is “Bikram Yoga Petworth”. That certainly implies that it’s in Petworth.

  • YAY! Wish it were actually in Petworth but this’ll do. Best news of the week.

  • As a Park View resident who lives a block away, it would be nice to see the neighborhood name in their business name. That said, I’m excited to see a quality place opening in some of the retail that has remained vacant on Georgia Ave. and I welcome them to the area.

    • Accountering

Meh, Parkview is a much smaller/less well known neighborhood. Petworth is much larger and more recognizable. If I was investing my capital to open a business, I too would go with Petworth, as I want the largest possible audience to be able to figure out where I am.

  • A bit off topic, but any thoughts as to why Petworth doesn’t have even a small, simple gym? Seems there’s definitely demand here and a bit frustrating I gotta schlep downtown every time I want to go work out.

    • What’s your definition of downtown? Petworth has a relatively cheap crossfit gym. Columbia Heights has a WSC. Crossfit Praxis and Elevate Interval Fitness are on 14th near Florida. I think the owner of Elevate lives up near Petworth, so maybe he figured there wasn’t enough interest in that area?

    • But there is a small, simple gym. There’s From the Core Studios on Georgia Avenue, and it’s like a block from this Bikram studio. It’s a nice place. The caveat, though- it’s all classes, but a wide variety of lots of different classes.

The Y is also on 14th and Florida. It’s not all the way downtown by any means.

  • Please just strike the name Bikram, change a few poses, stop paying a serial sexual assaulter royalties for some BS he put together by ripping off ancient practices. For those who would like / need context:

Seriously, I would go to a hot yoga class but not one that makes this guy more $.
