  • A couple interesting things to look at here if you want to date DC houses. That ornately carved limestone that you see around windows and doors was big in the 1890s. You don’t see it in the 1880s and it disappeared around 1905. Victoria had died and her age was ending. A cleaner look was coming into style. And in came the front porch, around 1906. This nascent front porch is what you see on DC rowhouses from around the turn of the century until 1906. This house, on Lamont Street, was built in 1905.
