  • Sure can’t wait until Muriel’s 4D approach is expanded to the whole city! Then everyone can experience these weekly shootings!

  • The police in district 4 (Bowser’s Ward) are a joke. They do NOTHING. How is this acceptable???

    • I agree with you about the 4th District police. However, it has a lot to do with the management officials. I was a big support of Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier until recently. I think it’s time for the Police Chief to move along because the morale is very low with the police officers within MPD. Lanier is earning I believe $280,000 yearly and this is a lot of money. Many of the MPD police officers haven’t received a cost of living raise in some time and they do enough just to get by.

This is crap. To say that if we just paid our officers more they would do a better job is ridiculous. Lanier is one of the bright spots, and I think it is the culture of ineptitude that is pervasive in MPD that is the actual problem. They have fired people for gross misconduct, and the union has gotten them hired back on technicalities.

    • People’s experiences vary. I just had an officer in the 4th District give me his cell number after I saw him on my block and told him about an issue in our neighborhood.

      • My experiences with 4D police have been consistently positive, as have my neighbors’. We’ve had to call for small crimes (theft, vandalism, etc.). When I have requested information about more serious crimes, they’ve been very responsive.

  • Jesus, the location of the shooting is less than half a block from my house . . .

    • Garper, it doesn’t say where the shooting occurred, but that he was *found* at 8th & Emerson. We live less than 1/2 a block from there and did not hear any gunshots.

      • I think it must have been pretty close – we live just a block away from there, and I heard what I thought were fireworks at exactly that time, although I didn’t see anything light up. I’m assuming this is what I heard.

        • I heard the same thing, similar location. I’m pretty sure some of what I heard was fireworks. But later on in the noise I heard a few pops that sounded different. Turned and looked at my wife with raised eyebrows since I thought it might be shots, but then figured it must have been more fireworks.

Shoot, you are absolutely right. I was parked at 7th and Farragut, and heard a loud pop west of me around 9:15. Then another one a minute later, and then like 3-4 a minute later. Thought/assumed they were fireworks, but eerie to say I heard someone get shot. Wish I would have called it in in hindsight, normally I have no qualms about calling 911, but I legitimately thought it was fireworks.
