You can talk about whatever is on your mind โ€“ quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct peopleโ€™s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or celebrate things about daily life in DC.

Rant: I’m at work and life sux.

    • Ugh, the office is a ghost town. On the bright side, I’m rocking out to my Christmas music and getting some good work done. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Emmaleigh504

I am not Christian and hate all the people who insist on play TERRIBLE Christmas music for all to hear. I also hate Christmas, it’s the most horrible time of the year ๐Ÿ™‚

        • How do you feel about people who insist on playing GOOD Christmas music for all to hear? There is some good stuff out there…. although listening to it for a month or more could still get annoying.

          • Emmaleigh504

Good Xmas music does not exist IMOH, and why should I have to listen to someone else’s religious music? If I played music from another religion at work I would get in trouble. F*ck Xmas I don’t like it and I don’t have to.

Though I do hate Xmas I love having it off from work and think other religions should petition to get their holidays recognized as federal holidays! Thank you baby Jesus for getting me an extra holiday!

          • Most music that people think of as Christmas music isn’t actually religious, though. It is about winter, or drinking by the fire, or visiting grandma, or whatever. It is really winter music. Doesn’t make it less annoying, though.

        • Well I don’t do it when there’s other people here, silly. It’s one of the benefits of being here by myself.

        • here’s something you might like as a rhino fan. spotted bumper sticker a while back that says:

“Dried testicles of rhino poachers cures AIDS”

    • I’m at work too, but am looking forward to getting some stuff done and heading out early. There is only one other person here, so it is quiet!

  • Rave: Roast Duck! And leftover roast duck!
Rave: Spent a major chunk of time yesterday re-arranging furniture — and it all where I wanted it to go!
Rave: Starbucks iced coffee – 110 calories. I could get to like this coffee stuff.
Rant: A rash less than 24 hours after getting a flu shot. Trying not to google this….
Rave: NOT running out to shop. I”m glad that I’ve outgrown that habit. Sorta. Kinda.

  • RANT: My condo in Petworth was broken into Thursday night. From my understanding, my alarm spooked the burglars before they got anything. Unfortunately, I’ve heard break-ins are on the rise in the area. A friend in Dupont’s place was burglarized a couple weeks ago (but I’ve heard they caught that guy). I know DC is a ghost town this weekend, so it wouldn’t surprise me if others are in the same predicament. Please remember to be aware of their surroundings and to keep any eye out for their neighbors.

  • Rant: Away from my family for Thanksgiving this year.
Rave: Spent a really great Thanksgiving with a close friend. We went to see a movie and then enjoyed the Thanksgiving spread at Teddy and the Bully Bar. Turned out to be one of the most relaxing and pleasant holidays I’ve ever had.
Rant: Had to get up early this morning for work
Rave: I’m the only one in the building, so I’m working in precious quiet with my shoes off and music up!

  • Rave: Thanksgiving with new and old friends yesterday was lovely, even if I have a ton of leftovers.
Rave: Another Friendsgiving this weekend should be fun.

Rant: Work today. The office is empty & I hope we get out early!

  • Im at work which I thought sucked but then I saw the possibilities..
more donuts for me. No one is here and no one is going to call or email. Im heading out for an extended lunch/pedicure very soon…

  • Quotia Zelda

Rave: Today is my telecommuting day.

    Rave: Pie for breakfast.

Not really a rant: With a house full of pie, my son had cereal for breakfast. That’s just not right.

  • Rave: I threw a Thanksgiving party, food and booze to the nines, so tasty!
Rant: Only 2 of the 25 “Yes I’m Coming” people showed.
Rant: Complained I didn’t make turkey.
Rave: Jerks left after 30 minutes and stuffing themselves.

TIL: I will never throw another party in DC.

    • That sucks on the no-shows and bad-manners people.

    • I’ve pretty much given up on inviting people for Thanksgiving. I’ve experienced that too many times – you bust your ass to put on a nice feast, and people show up late, eat and leave like it’s a restaurant. Last year was the exception – we had a nice group of people who lingered at the table for hours, good conversation the whole time, it was a joy.

    • I’ve decided to look on the positive: so much leftover goodness means a break from cooking for a bit!

    • you need a better class of friends. that’s just low class.

  • Rave: Office is a ghost town, actually getting work done for once instead of everyone bugging me about how to do stuff in Excel.
Rant: House guests’ car was broken in to outside our house on Wednesday night. They used a screwdriver to bust out the window, which apparently is relatively quiet. They made out like bandits, with a ton of electronics.

  • Rant: had the worst thanksgiving ever people! First – decided to take my phone out of the waterproof cover while standing waste deep in water for just one photo. Splash! Trying not to freak out while its sleeping for next two days in a bag of rice. Second – my first food poisoning of the trip! Havent thrown up so much since…ever, I believe.

Rave: pulled it together enough to be able to go on a snorkelling trip to Phi Phi island this morning. The waves sucked, but I got to see so many pretty fishes, it was amazing!

  • Rant: Red line is still a hopeless mess
Revel: Four lovely days away from work/commuting, oh and pie!
