7:00pm – 11:45pm | FREE!On Monday, April 29, five DC-area presses, magazines, and arts organizations will gather at U Street Music Hall for an evening of readings, prizes, and music to celebrate the areas ever expanding independent literature scene. Organized by the good people at Barrelhouse, Big Lucks, Flying Guillotine Press, Lines + Stars, and 826 DC, the event, titled Come Get Some, is an opportunity for Washingtonians to get to know some of the folks involved in DCs indie literary community and to meet other friendly neighbors who spend as much time reading as they do, but who also like to socialize.
Its also a good excuse to drink on a Monday night.
The event will showcase local authors Sean Carman, Amelia Cohen-Levy, Carrie Murphy, and Michael Sheehan. Attendees can win prizes such as copies of new releases from participating journals and presses, as well as tee-shirts and other assorted goodies. Throughout the evening, DJ Patrick Kigongo (We Fought the Big One) will provide music.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
