Don't you have to wait in line just to put your name down, though?
Also, what if I...
I would also go to your councilmember (who is Jim Graham) and explain the situation. They...
So awful, praying that see and the baby are as okay as you can be after being shot
Get rid of this stupid reservation system. Why should a customer have to wait in line...
I love it!
Great job, Andrew!!
Looks too similar to the logo for Zoe’s Kitchen
not to me. except it’s orange.
BOO!!!
Sorry, but you get what you pay for. As a professional designer, I’m sick of competitions that are basically thinly veiled requests for free work. It’s unethical and nobody should enter spec competitions. Nothing good will come of this because no good artist/designer will enter. Just look at the new DC Water logo.
+ 1
no pro would do this kind of thing clearly. it’s for t shirts that pop gives away. lighten up.
Lighten up? We’re trying to have fun, not put you out of a job…
Wow, I didn’t realize the world of professional designers was governed by such a strict code of “ethics.” To think, all this time I just thought they were fake artists, but it seems they take oathes, pay guild dues, and have bylaws.
Even lawyers do pro bono work , kid. PoP is just trying to get some ‘hood love going.
(but I’d like to see another stab at our beloved U Street… something a little less food chain-y.)
Here’s the take on spec work by AIGA – the professional body of graphic designers, quoting from their sample letter to use by designers:
“The approach you are pursuing is one that compromises the quality of work you are entitled to and also violates a tacit, long-standing ethical standard in the communication design profession worldwide.
AIGA, the nation’s largest and oldest professional association for design, strongly discourages the practice of requesting that design work be produced and submitted on a speculative basis in order to be considered for acceptance on a project.”
I’m also a professional designer, and I must say, you’re wrong. Some of us are confident enough in our skills that we don’t feel threatened by our fellow designers doing something like this for fun. Lighten up. It’ll take you far.
Immediately makes me think of the University of Miami.
I had the same thought. Go ‘Canes!
The UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU…..street.
Looking at it makes me angry and Im not sure why
might be a little corny, but how about a saxophone with music notes coming out to form a “U” together?
mmm…. mm-mm.
Or a U-shaped chili dog!
So creative! Meh.
People are always so divisive, instead of supportive. In any case, Andrew, maybe you should delete the black line around the U and remove the “shade font” so it will not look too busy. And great idea to include the green and yellow.
As to a suggestion below- using a saxophone is great because of the jazz clubs on U St, but it would not represent all of the U Street Corridor. The above is neutral.
It’s giving me a headache. Like those 3D comic books.
Well yikes! lol… in my defense I had no idea this was going to be posted as a stand-alone image for people to criticize. Never would have submitted anything if I knew that was the case. Anyways…thanks for the feedback. Sorry for the migraines I caused!
it’s gooood!
no, it’s not.
Great work and inspiring. I’ll be preparing one and submitting in the next day or so.
Inspiring work, Andrew!
Would’ve been good to see Ben’s Chili Bowl built into it though. I eat there twice per day.
Andrew – first impression before opening the comments – I like it. Now that I’ve read all the comments, I still like it.
Looks great, Andrew! I would try a different placement of “corridor” and maybe a lighter shade of orange. But I love the yellow and green line references!
I take that back, I like the orange! A lighter orange would hide the yellow.
Again, great job!

my originals…friends encouraged me to combine.
It’s all about the U.
Sorry but no thank you. Those yellow & green lines give me seizures like a Japanese anime. Also the offset black lines around the word “street” and the “U” look like bad typesetting, not “design”.
Reminds me of Sesame Street. This district street is brought to you by the letter “U”.
gahhhhh!!! this is awful!
looking forward to your submission!
people aren’t allowed to have opinions these days?
I can’t read the comments section on this site anymore. The people in this town are such drama queens.
speaking of drama queens…
