Stella*s PopKern Gourmet Popcorn Food Truck Launches

Photo via Facebook

Dessert Thursday continues. From a press release:

Just in time for food truck season, Stella*s PopKern is launching their first gourmet popcorn truck. Offering a mix of modern nostalgia, this fun, delicious and affordable snack is sure to evoke fond memories for the city-dwellers of DC and tourists alike.

Stella*s is the brainchild of Kristina Kern, who grew up cherishing popcorn nights with her mother. Kern continues this tradition with her own daughter, Stella, who is the truck’s namesake. After a successful career in high-end catering, Kern needed a lifestyle change. She quickly realized she could not stray from her passion for good, quality food products produced with the savvy consumer in mind. While classic flavors like cheddar and caramel corn will be available, Kern’s focus is on interesting ingredients that will create a more “gourmet” popcorn experience. Flavors like Tuscan Herb-Infused Olive Oil with Rosemary Sea Salt and Dark Chocolate Drizzle with Sea Salt are sure to become favorites of even the most discerning foodie.

Stella*s will be on the streets of DC Monday through Friday from 11:30am until 4:00pm and will tweet their location throughout the day. Late-night and private event visits are available. To find Stella*s location, follow the truck on Twitter, @stellaspopkern.

    Speaking of Food Trucks:

Today is the last day to submit your comment on the new food truck regulations.

The new regulations will help food trucks and save us from the threat of police shut downs and tickets for not having a line. We need your help because powerful special interest groups are opposing the new regulations. Can you take one moment to submit comments to the city by clicking the link below?

Submit your comments to the city by emailing DCVendingRegs@dc.gov

The regulations look pretty good. They make it a better city for food trucks. In our comments to DCRA on the regulations we are asking that they move forward and make three changes:

    1) Sweet and savory trucks should be treated the same.
    2) The new vending development zones should never be used to created “food truck free zones.”
    3) Food trucks should be able to stay open the same hours as restaurants.

Special interest groups are gathering their supporters and their high-paid lobbyists to stop these regulations. We don’t have as much money as them, but we do have our supporters like you. That’s why we need you to comment today.

Please send your positive comments about food trucks and the regulations to DCVendingRegs@DC.gov

Or submit your comments through our site: http://www.PassNewRegs.org

OK enough of this now…popcorn? Really?

    • lol. That was kind of my reaction too. Plus I made the mistake of reading their Facebook info page. Would you believe that their popcorn is not only yummy, but also delicious? Wait, there’s more: it’s also flirty! (Huh?)

Yes I want my pop corn to be flirty…wink at me, pout your herby lips, slather my souuuuul with EVOO.
        Maaaan GTFOH!!!!

I saw Stella’s out on the street last weekend and it was delicious! It was very reasonably priced with lots of creative variations. I’m a fan!

    • out of curiousity, what do they charge and how much to do they give you? Their website didn’t say.

      • Anonymous

It was $3 for the flavor I had (lime and EVOO and chili verde…delicious) for a full bag slightly larger than a brown-lunch-bag. I think that the standard butter and sea salt flavors were $2, and some of the varieties with chocolate or caramel were a dollar or two more– but i can’t remember exactly.

  • And that hot Kentucky corn popper is an eye popper too. Get some of her action while you’re buying the corn. Talk about flirty! Of course I don’t think anyone her age should really be wearing those clothes, but . . . well, some people never catch on.

I had the popcorn the other day and it was GREAT! Not sure what the poster, dated 3/2, is talking about….the owner wears jeans and a t-shirt, apporpriate for ages 1yr to 120yrs! Strange comment~

Not sure where the losers below have been, but obviously not out trying this pop corn. Must be some strange form of pop corn envy… EXCELLENT STUFF!!!! Great flavors – Salted Caramel is to die for. Well worth a repeat visit…or two!
