PoP Pho Patrol: Via 19 Pho DC Closes in Dupont

Back in Dec. 2011 Via 19 added Pho DC in the former Mezze Luna space at 1140 19th St, NW. On Sunday I saw the signs had come down and workers were cleaning out the space. The space has an amazing patio out front so hopefully the next tenant will have better luck. Stay tuned.

That location is cursed.
I wouldn’t call a string of thinly veiled nightclubs trying to operate as dinner and lunch spots in a basement on 19th St in the shadow of much nicer and more desirable hot spots on Conn Ave as “cursed”. The owners just couldn’t pull it off. I never saw anybody go in there. Ever. And Tandoori Time just above it doesn’t lack for lunch business, so you can’t blame the location.
Doesn’t surprise me. I went to check the place out for dinner on a thursday night a few weeks back. average pho, nothing special, but they still didn’t have beer on tap and you could hear all the bass from the club next door. the place was empty, i think there were a total of 6 people in there…
