El Centro From Blue to Gray – Did they Just Want Another 4PM Post?

Thanks to a reader for sending word that the building has now gone gray. I think I like the gray better.

Anyway, the space sounds awesome:

Chef Richard Sandoval invites you to gather, dine and raise a glass at El Centro, D.F.
Authentic Mexican comfort food and fine Tequilas are served in three vibrant spaces.

A lively open kitchen is the backdrop for the casual taqueria. Eat-in or take your tacos to-go.

Dine or lounge in the underground Tequileria,
where Mixologists craft Latin cocktails and pour from 200 Tequilas & Mezcals.

Salud! Raise a glass at the rooftop’s two open-air bars.

If anyone checks them out today/tonight (1819 14th St, NW) – let us know what you think!

  • I thought the original look was bold and fun – but the grey scheme is handsome. Maybe one or two of their neighbors had a word with them about “RUINING THE BLOCK”

  • I’ll be there tonight. Stoked.

  • I can’t wait to go here. God, I love my neighborhood.

  • definitely preferred the blue.

Love the D.F. thing. Some Mexican place should play up the Mexico, DF/Washington, DC, connection. Like a place called Distrito Federal or something.

  • I preferred the orange and blue. What a waste of paint.

  • I preferred the more festive original version.

  • I went to their opening last night and it was a real zoo. It was $20 for unlimited finger foods and the drink “specials” were $10. It took them a while to start getting the food out, but once they did, I was able to sample much of their menu- tacos, tamales, quesadillas, etc. Overall, I’d say the food was very good, except I think like many new restuarants on this strip, the food and drink will be at premium prices.

  • Definitely liked the blue better – I suppose grey grey DC style prevailed : (
