Random Reader Rant and/or Revel

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?

I’ll start with a rave, I had to call the fire department because my carbon monoxide detector went off and the response was phenomenal. It turned out to be a false alarm but DCFD arrived lightning fast and were super professional and courteous. Many thanks.

  • rant: bike accident at corner of 11th and Florida Ave on Sat night, right by lacey. Biker with no helmet crashes into Washington Post box and is bleeding from the head right as I’m stopped at the light on Florida. His friend (who was biking a good 20 feet in front of him) claimed his friend was hit by car. I didn’t see one. People need to be more careful. This could have been prevented. I said a prayer for this guy that night. He looked ok when they put him in the ambulance…

Rave: Fast and efficient response from MPD and ambulance. Also, good neighbors. Concerned neighbors actually came out of Lacey and assisted.

  • rant: found out our baby is going to have down syndrome. Have no clue how to go about making the obvious decision.

    • when i said obvious decision I meant the question is obvious. I have no clue what our decision will be.

      • Prince Of Petworth

I wish you and your family much strength.

      • Thanks for all the support. I know it’s silly to do an anonymous post on a website but it does make me feel better just talking about it. Update: We just found out today that the baby also has a serious virus that means it probably won’t survive no matter what. So I guess that makes the decision a lot easier.

        • I’m so sorry to hear that – I had a miscarriage earlier this year and it was pretty devastating. It’s not easy but you will emerge stronger on the other side. Thinking of you and your family.

I’m sorry. This must be so hard.

    • Good luck. Ditto to POP’s comment

      • I wish you much strength, as well. I assume/hope your doctor can refer you to people who can help you think this through.

    • hcfoo, I’m so sorry to hear that. Best wishes to you and your family. You can only do what is right for YOU and not what’s right for anyone else. And whatever way you decide, it’s ok. Not that you need a semi-anonymous stranger to tell you that.

    • Wishing you and your family lots of strength.

    • That is a massive decision that I would never want to make. I wish you much strength to make the best decision for you and yours.

    • saf

Oh dear. Many prayers going up that whatever you decide turns out to be the best thing for you and your family.

Wishes that you have the strength and the ability to discern the correct path for you.

  • Rant: was vomitted on at the Wonderland after Columbia Heights day.

Rave: The manager bought my beers!

  • HcFoo, I’m so sorry. I hope your doctors are able to provide lots of information and refer you to people who have made various decisions in your situation, and to help you prepare for whatever choice you make.

It seems silly to give a rant/revel after that, but:

Revels: won a ribbon at the DC state fair, got a bobblehead and the chance to watch the Nats’ highest-scoring game ever, going on vacation tomorrow!

Rants: morning glory took over my garden and strangled my squash–pulling it out was such a pain. Also, being single sucks: first dates, crushes on probably-uninterested people, etc.

  • Rave: I went to CH Day and had a GREAT time.

Rant: This chick I threw up on afterwards at Wonderland Ballroom was a total buzzkill.

  • Rave: My house sits in between one with 3 hot women and one with 3 hot women.

Rant: They average 15 years my junior.

  • Another rave for DC firefighters: they we hanging out around CH Day, letting kids climb up into the big truck. It may have been my kid’s favorite part of the whole event. (She liked the petting zoo, until she got nibbled by a duck. We tried to explain that’s just how a duck says hello, but she wasn’t buying it.)

  • Rave: The acoustic set aboard the Miss Ann Friday night happy hour — Go Mr. Petworth musician extraordinaire!

Rave: Wanted pork ribs, safeway had em on sale, cooked em up using my new recipe, and they hit the spot!

Rant: I don’t live with DL! (though I guess my neighbor ladies are pretty hot too!)

  • Rant – Missed sign up for Stoddert Soccer (fall) for 5 yr old.

Does anyone know anything about Kids Pro Soccer (http://www.kidsprosoccer.com/news.htm)? They meet in Shepherd Park
Any other good programs NE / NW DC or close by?

  • Rave: went bike riding Sat morning, 25.5 miles of my 26 mile ride were great!

Rant: the last .5 mile I fell, messing my hand up, gashing my knee, and just totally killing my exercise buzz

  • Rant: It’s Monday, and this job is slowly sucking away my soul…kind of like a dementor.

Rave: Beautiful weather this weekend! Spent some time just chillin’ on the waterfront in Alexandria, and took the water taxi from Old Town to Georgetown.

  • Rant: the guy next door keeps peeping out the blinds at me and my roommates…and we have to walk right past his house to go to our hot friends’ house on the other side!

  • Rant: The Looking Glass lounge bartender this Saturday was a total jerk!

Rave: …I usually rave about how much I like The Looking Glass 🙁
