House of the Day

This is from the Mt. Vernon Triangle neighborhood. I’m a huge fan of the window that stick out the side like this. It’s pretty rare to find ’em like this.

  • Ahoy !

These bay windows are underutilized in today’s designs.

Provided they are of a certain height, DC Zoning allows for them matter of right to protrude and extend beyond property lines; above alleys as in this one, or better, above sidewalks allowing views up and down a street.

Really cool when seated alcoves are constructed within.

In smaller apartments these alcoves allow for more light and can be designed adjacent to a living room with fixed bench seating along three sides and a table in the middle allowing for a bright dining area when space is tight.

Very popular in Victorian homes in San Francisco.

  • Actually I believe that this is a house I was looking at purchasing recently. It is separated into 4 separate apartments and they were asking 700k about six months ago but it has since gone off the market. I am not sure if it was sold or not though.
