Good Deal or Not?

Perhaps I’m giving you all some early house porn this week. This home is located at 1119 Clifton Street, NW.

Pretty sweet. But is it sweet enough to go for $839,900 (there has been a 30k reduction in price)?

  • I think the “house porn” moniker has jumped the shark. It’s a normal renovated 3 bedroom rowhouse in columbia heights with the ceiling in the master bedroom made to extend into the attic space. it’s a nice place.

  • Lovely house, but I don’t think the location warrants the 840K price tag.

  • I think the phrase “house porn” has jumped the shark. It’s a renovated 3 bedroom rowhouse in columbia heights with the ceiling in the master bedroom bumped up into the attic. It’s nice.

  • Is that police tape on the front gate?

  • Not worth it. And what is across the street, a school (don’t we all love street view)? If so than it is even more overpriced.

That is a phone book bag not police tape – I think.

Also, what is up with the neighbor house? did they Add onto the house where the front porch would be? The “addition” looks good but doesn’t fit the style of the house all that well (especially with all the neighbors).

  • I will say, they’re not lying about the Capital Dome, this block has one of the sickest views in the city. I used to live a block east, and this whole neighborhood on the 4th of July is amazing, because it’s the best place in the city (except for right on the Mall) to see the fireworks.

  • Went to the open house last week – this house has a killer renovation if you like open space. They knocked out all of the walls on the ground floor and added a massive kitchen. the master bedroom was pretty sweet too – the view from the bedroom balcony is amazing. Expensive, but the sign said they rent the basement out for $1,500 and it has a totally seperate entrance.

  • Do any of you have any experience with turning the top of a porch into a balcony like that? Was it expensive? How about turning a window into a door to access the balcony?

  • I’m with the naysayers here. There’s a lot to like about that place — nice renovation, great view, and apparently a productive rental unit, but at the end of the day, it is where it is, and 839k can buy a lot of house in a much nicer location.

(And can we get some firm notion of what constitutes house porn? I think the bare minimum should be a price tag north of $1 million.)

  • It’s overpriced. Houses in DC need to come down in price and become more affordable. That’s ridiculous.

  • Basement apartment? killer view, nice renovation? I think it’s worth it. But I know that school. it use to be a pretty tough area.

  • If I had $839K to spend, I’d buy a house in Mt. Pleasant. Or an enormo house in 14th St Heights.
