“I’m writing because my dog, Olive, got loose this morning (Wed. 9/23) and ran off in Columbia Heights, possibly running down into LeDroit Park. I’m hoping you can post these photos and description.
Olive is a 2 year old, small/medium (25 lb), black and white border collie-corgi mix. She looks like a border collie with the body type and short legs of a corgi.
Olive is wearing a yellow flowered collar with tags and is micro-chipped. Her tags include my phone number so I’m praying that someone finds her or just spots her and calls me at 330-554-3658. We are posting flyers in the area with this information.
She slipped out of the house this morning on the corner of Sherman and Kenyon and ran south down Georgia Ave. She was spotted mid-morning around S street and Florida Ave and may have been spotted again at U and 1st. She may still be in this area or hopefully she is making her way back home towards 3214 Sherman Ave, near Harriet Tubman Elementary School.
We love Olive very much and will happily give a cash reward to anyone that can help bring her home. She is skittish with strangers, so approaching her slowly would work best. Cheese is her favorite treat and may help coax her.”

“Dear PoP,
Out walking my dogs yesterday morning, I found a little dog (a Bichon Frise) wandering the neighborhood without a collar or tags. We brought him home, reported finding him to the Humane Society, posted notice on neighborhood lists, and have walked extensively around the neighborhood with him looking for the owner or anybody who recognizes the dog, with no luck.”
If this is your dog please leave your email in the comments or contact me directly. Thanks.

This is something I’ve been thinking about lately. On my walks around town (and through the occasional email) I’ve been noticing a ton of lost dog posters. And I’m just wondering why there are so many lately? I know one dog slipped its collar but that seems rare to me. How do all these other dogs get lost. Do they run out of the house, jump fences? What’s the deal here? I’m also wondering about one poster that said the dog had a microchip. Can’t they put a GPS function in the microchip?
It’s actually quite sad. The effort that has been made with many of these posters (including rewards offered) clearly shows that the owners are terribly distraught. But I’m seriously curious – how do so many get loose? Have you guys noticed a lot of posters lately?

“Mona, a female 1yr old Havanese, slipped her collar on Monday night near Dupont and ran across 17th, 16th, 15th and 14th street, and was seen around Logan circle as well as 11th and Florida. She is a fast runner, and is very frightened but friendly. She has silky black short hair, a long tail, floppy ears, weighs about 10-12 lbs, and is only about 1.5ft tall. She also has short legs, and a white patch on her chest. She has a microchip. If you see her, please don’t chase her as she will likely run. Please call 202.271.7702 with any information or sightings.
Thank you so much for your help!
Jenny”

“Dear PoP,
My dog Peat snuck under my fence this evening and escaped. I haven’t received a call about him. His name is Peat. If he is not wearing a collar people can email me at [email protected]. I’ve attached his picture (he normally looks much happier). Oh yeah, and he is shaved, so the only long hair is on his head and tail.
He was last seen at 13th and Taylor NW. He is a bit of a wanderer – prone to climbing fences. This time it looks like he dug himself out. He has been found as far north as Military several years ago. I called animal control and he no one has called in no him.”
Please email [email protected] if anyone spots Peat.

“Found the pup on New Hampshire and Buchanan. People can reach me at [email protected]. I had no way to keep the dog past today-so I left a FOUND notice with Animal Control, had them pick him up. If the owners don’t get him in 5 days, they will neuter him, vaccinate him, and put him up for adoption. I really want him to get home and am so sorry I couldn’t keep him longer.”
