“Dear PoP,

I was walking by Dogs by Day the other day and there is a brick building to the right of Dogs by Day. I think the address is 1728th 14th ST NW, but I could be off +-2. The building hardly has any windows, and the few windows that it does have are long but narrow. There is also a security camera out front. There is no identification of a business or even address. Do you have any idea of what this building is? Looks kind of mysterious.”

Great question! Anyone have a clue?

“Dear PoP,

Also on 14th Street a block or so away to the South, there is a large Verizon building. It looks like the place has tons of telephone wires inside harkening back to an earlier time. I was just wondering if that building was ever used? It seems out-of-date and out-of-place now. Also seems like it would be great for lofts.”

Hahaha, that’s for sure, it’s a great location for lofts…but you’d have to put in a lot of new windows!

Does anyone know what actually goes on in this building?

“Dear PoP,

In the last day or two, rings have been installed in the pavement along the curb just outside the driveway of the Reeves Center garage (14th and U Streets, NW). What in the world for?”

A perfect Helen of Troy question. Any ideas?

What exactly is the window section up top? Is this just what they used before skylights? Or is there a different function? Or is it just for style? (This one is from Capitol Hill.)

I saw this on the top of a regular row house. What do you think it’s function is – to measure the wind? If that is the case, why would a regular row house like this wan to measure the wind?
