From the MPD listserv:

Three young black males were seen beating and kicking a young white male last night around 2 am near 8th and S St last night on the sidewalk of the 1800 block of S. We heard the disturbance outside, I opened our front door and screamed at them to stop. One of the assailants aimed a gun at me as the victim fled on foot and the other suspects piled into a waiting car. The police responded quickly, although everyone had already left the seen.

No idea about how the incident started, but if anyone has any information about this crime the police (and the unknown victim, no doubt) would likely appreciate it.

Terrifying. There have been no responses by MPD or others as of 10am. I’ll be sure to update if/when more info becomes available.

“Dear PoPville,

Has anyone’s neighbor recently acquired a chair very much like the one in the attached photo? Our second chair managed to disappear sometime between 10:30 last night (Wed, Jun 15) and 9:00 this morning (Thu, Jun 16). We live in Columbia Heights, just a few blocks from the Red Derby.

Thanks for keeping an eye out.”

If anyone sees the chair email me at princeofpetworth(at)gmail and I’ll tell the OP where the chair was spotted.

“Dear PoPville,

I just purchased a new Weber gas grill. Perhaps foolishly, I bought a nice one. A really nice one. Now I’m afraid someone will steal it, or strip it for parts. It’s on our back deck close to the backdoor light, I keep it covered, and I have a big dog. Do you or your readers have any suggestions for what else I can do to deter theft? Thanks!”

I know bicycles get stolen a lot but can you use a bike lock to attach it to the deck? Has anyone heard of a grill getting stolen?

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if you or your readers had any information on the neighborhood near the National Arboretum, and would care to share? I’m specifically referring to the neighborhood around 22nd and R St. NE. It looks likes a lovely neighborhood. Quiet, clean, cute houses, close to our city’s (arguably) most under-appreciated public space. Walmart is planning on developing down the road… Thanks much.”

Anyone familiar with the small residential area around 22nd and R St. NE?

From MPD Chief Cathy Lanier:

The Metropolitan Police Department wishes to announce that detectives from the First District, Second District and Third District have made arrests in connection to a series of armed robberies that have occurred in all three police districts. The subjects were taken into custody over the weekend and charged in one of the offenses; however, they have been positively linked to the related robbery pattern. After the subjects are indicted on all of the various robberies associated with this spree, they will be formally identified.

Apparently it’s huge in Texas, Indiana and Kentucky. Anyone ever tried one before? I’m told it will soon be arriving at “independent convenience and grocery stores.”

For the fans – can you compare it to anything, what does it taste like?
