Thanks to Elizabeth for the heads up about Morgan’s Seafood on Kenyon and Georgia in the Park View neighborhood (check out the picture of the soft shell crabs below.) This is a picture of the proprietor Romeo Morgan who has owned the store for over 30 years. The store itself has been around for 75 years! Romeo is holding my delicious crab cake sandwich, which was amazing. It wasn’t one of those 2/3 breading 1/3 crab this baby was 3/3 crab meat. This delicious crab cake was $8.95 and worth every penny. He also offers Trout, Croaker Bone Fried fish and Whiting Filet Fried Fish. And if you are feeling very adventurous you can try the Pig Feet Dinner with 2 sides for $9.95. Some of the sides available are Candied Yams, Coleslaw, Fresh Greens, Mash Potatoes and more. I also have to add that Romeo Morgan himself was an unbelievably nice guy. He was super friendly and tells a hell of a good story.

I live in a stand alone house, which is nice because I have windows all over the place. As it is, my neighbor’s kitchen looks right into my kitchen and from time to time we both happen to be washing dishes at the same time. Now mind you I get along very well this neighbor. But those times that we are both washing dishes at the same time can be quite awkward. You know it is almost like bumping into a stranger in your own house. Sometimes we look up at the same time and then we look back down at our dishes real quick. So what do I do say hello? It is very hard to explain. All I can say is I’m glad I finally got blinds for my bathroom…
Get ready for one of the coolest festivals ever. The DC Carribbean Carnival is coming to Petworth next Sat. June 23rd! It is absolutely as cool as this picture makes it look. The festival goes along Georgia Ave, through a large part of Petworth. Unfortunately, I’m going to miss this year’s but the previous ones I have attended have been unbelievable. There are a series of 18 wheeler trucks that are entirely filled with speakers jamming music from different countries in the Caribbean with dancers trailing the trucks. Plus there is tons of delicious food from all over the Caribbean also represented. I recommend grabbing some jerk chicken from Sweet Mango and line up early so you get a good viewing spot. I like watching from the intersection of Georgia and New Hampshire. If you are in town, don’t miss this awesome event! Thanks to Susan for the heads up.
Well, the house next door to the monstrosity has gone up for sale. I wonder how difficult it would be to sell given its gigantic neighbor. What do you think, would you have to knock $25k off your preferred asking price? I’d love to hear the real estate agent make the pitch to prospective buyers. I’d imagine it would go something like this: It is a beautiful house in the sizzling Petworth neighborhood and luxury condos are going up right next door…
This house is a beaut located on Taylor near Georgia Ave. It has nice landscaping, a nice porch and cool windows.
Thanks to Sean for the heads up. “RockCreek” has found some really cool old pictures of DC. This one of course is our very own Randolph Street. Pretty Sweet.
Nope this is not taken from sunny California like the picture below. This was taken at Morgan’s Seafood on Georgia and Kenyon in our very own neighborhood of Park View. Much more to follow on this neat neighborhood find.
I saw this on the Petworth Yahoo group, allegedly said by a Director of the homeless shelter coming to Georgia Ave. If true this is totally hilarious. It is from the site Mission D.C. Facts. Can anyone verify this quote? Did anyone go to this meeting? The Web site reports:
“Barfonce Britton Baldwin, Senior Director of Central Union Mission was on hand to answer area resident’s questions at a June 13, 2007 neighborhood meeting regarding the men’s homeless shelter’s desired move to Georgia Avenue. One young female resident who had unknowingly recently purchased her first home across from the proposed location of the mega-shelter asked Baldwin how she would feel if she were in the same situation.
Barfonce replied, “I understand. If the Mission tried to move into my neighborhood, I would oppose it too.”
