Apparently in parts of Crestwood. This is near the corner of 18th and Taylor, NW. As I mentioned during the house of the day, I managed to get lost walking around Crestwood. I could’ve sworn I was walking south but somehow ended up north. Anyway, at a certain point I noticed the strangest thing – the sidewalks vanished. I had to walk in the streets like a vagabond. This is something I might expect to see in the far out suburbs or exurbs. But in the city proper. Granted, it is a very lovely quiet neighborhood, but no sidewalks. Terrible. Anyone know why the sidewalks vanish here?

“i have a question, maybe you would know or if not, maybe your readers would know.

last fall, a friend of mine was hit and killed by an automobile on capital hill as he crossed the street. saturday, i was nearly hit by a car in my neighborhood, then watched an accident happen when that car turned into an SUV. it was the first time i have called 911, actually. [this was on 14th at kennedy, btw].

anyway, what can we do to make this city safer for pedestrians? i’ve lived in several cities, chicago, nyc, and london, and i have felt the most unsafe here, as a pedestrian.

how do neighborhood residents get things like a crosswalk button for pedestrians at intersectinos (there are none there, fyi) or those flouresnect ‘ped x’ signs put in?

who do i talk to/call?”

My trigger finger was a bit too slow but the red hand actually started flashing at 21 seconds. 21 seconds! This is crossing New Hampshire avenue at Shepherd. We’re not talking about the Cours Mirabeau here. It certainly doesn’t take 21 seconds to finish crossing, so cut me some slack show me the walking guy for ten more seconds. Yeah?
