New from the forum section: A reader has a few questions:

“First, anyone know where to find a game of pick-up soccer in MtP/Petworth/Columbia Heights? I’ve found a couple games elsewhere, but they are a bit above my skill level. I’m looking for a rec level game somewhere (not too competitive). Any ideas?

If such a thing doesn’t exist in the area, anyone have an interest in getting a PoP game together on a weekend or weekday evening (tougher this time of year, I know)?

and/or

Any interest in getting together a rec level co-ed indoor or outdoor team this fall/winter?”

I have to encourage you to check out a game one Saturday afternoon at Roosevelt High on Upshur Street just west of Georgia Ave. It’s not quite Redskins caliber, well, actually, I guess it is Redskins caliber…

Following the theme of purely random FQOTD, I’m curious to know what your most profound sports memory is?  Mine is the 1996 New Yankees World Series Championship.  That third out of game six is burned into my brain.

Although a closer runner up is when the Yankees beat the Red Sox in the ALCS, 2003 I was brought to tears.  As a matter of fact it was the year I got engaged to my ex-fiance and at a dinner party over New Years that year we went around the table and recounted our most memorable moments.  Instead of saying the greatest moment was getting engaged, I said my greatest moment from 2003 was the Yankees beating the Red Sox in the ALCS.  Yeah, that didn’t go over so well…

Oops.

So what’s your most profound sports memory?

Thanks to a reader for sending. Looks like it was a great time. The reader writes, “I do not even have a big Zoom lens. I was just this close to the action.” Nice.

DCist got some good photos as well.

Thanks to a reader for giving me the heads up about tons of folks running around the U St. area with numbers on their backs. I couldn’t get any teams to stop for very long but I caught the two photographed above at a stop light. They told me it was a High Trek Adventure race. Man, I wish I knew about this earlier, it sounds awesome. From the High Trek Web site:

“You and your team partner will be on a lively, one-day, DC amazing race. This scavenger hunt will take you to unmarked checkpoints known as TREKpoints and explore Washington,DC like you’ve never experienced it before as the puzzle unfolds. Our high octane energy adventure game might take you through the many historical neighborhoods of our nation’s capitol like Foggy Bottom, Adams Morgan, Georgetown, Capitol Hill, Dupont Circle, the Washington Mall and some nifty places you might not even know about!

On this sensational metro adventure, you’ll solve clues ranging from pop culture to math (nothing tougher than 8th grade) to American history, anagrams, sudoku, and so much more. It’s like a real life Trivial Pursuit game!”

Can’t believe I missed this. Did anyone participate?

For those that missed it, fear not. A reader and I are organizing a PoP scavenger hunt for the second Saturday in October. Stay tuned for details.

A reader invites you to early yoga at yoga house and in September a donations only yoga class in her home:

“Want to make your day go better with an early yoga class?

Neighborhood yogini Atieno Fisher teaches a flow class at Yoga House on Georgia Ave (yogahouse.org) at 6:30am every Tuesday that focuses on getting your mind where you want it to be for the day – focused, alert, and consciously centered in your chosen values.

Beginning in late September, there will also be a donations-only community practice Tuesday night 6:30 class at Atieno’s Park View home at 3208 Park Place NW. Polished wood floors and an open space plan make this address an ideal yoga-studio-by-night. Come early to help set up or drop some green fat in the jar!

To learn more, contact Atieno at 202 550 5462 or atieno at gmail.com

Namaste!”

Incidentally, where is your favorite yoga spot in the city?

A reader writes:

“So I am sitting in a coffee shop on 17th Street right now (of all places) on vacation, and a dude across from me totally just opened up a fed ex box and pulled out what appears to be a vintage Michael Jordan Dream Team Jersey. Seriously. He was holding it up to himself and now he’s checking the tags. He’s like practically asking for all of the people here to stare at it. For some reason I find this to be hilarious. If I could take a picture without seeming super creepy, I would.”

Phenomenal but for the fact that I’m pretty sure I did the same thing when I received my Patrick Viera France National Football Jersey…  Although, at least I was in my own home at the time.  That is pretty hilarious.  But it does beg the question:  Michael Jordan – greatest athlete of all time?

Sorry for the terrible cell phone photo but this was way too cool of a sight not to post (they gave me permission to take the photo). So these folks had set up tiki torches and brought a tv and comfortable chairs on their front lawn to watch the olympics. It really was a great sign. So are you guys super psyched about the olympics? I have to be honest, it really doesn’t do much for me. Maybe if they showed my favorite Summer olympics sport (ping pong) I’d feel differently. If you are excited what are your favorite sports to watch?
