PaintCare will host a one-day paint drop-off and giveaway event for District households and businesses on Saturday, May 20 at RFK Festival Grounds Lot 8 (2500 Independence Ave SE, Washington, DC 20003) between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Read a complete list of accepted products, check business limits, and register online by visiting paint-rfk.eventbrite.com.

Households may bring most types of paint, stain, and varnish in any amount. Paint must be in sealed container with original manufacturer label. We cannot accept aerosols, solvents, and other hazardous waste.

Event attendees will also be able to browse partially filled containers of a variety of products including latex- and oil-based paints, primers, and stains. Color options and volumes are not guaranteed. Paint is given away on a first come, first served basis.

To use PaintCare drop-off sites and events for oil-based products, a business must qualify as an exempt generator under federal and any analogous state hazardous waste generator rules. Please visit paintcare.org/VSQG for more information on exempt generator rules. If your business does not qualify as an exempt generator, it can use PaintCare drop-off sites and events for water-based products but not oil-based products.

If you cannot make this event, households and businesses can also drop off paint year-round at 9 locations throughout D.C. Find a drop-off site near you by visiting paintcare.org or calling (855)PAINT09.

We get it: A lot of PoPville readers live here in D.C. That’s why we always talk about this fine city!

But we wanted to take a break in our regularly scheduled programming to let you know Well-Paid Maids not only serves D.C. — we also professionally clean homes in Northern Virginia and Maryland’s Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. Hey, we’re even up in New York City now!

So if you’ve moved or have family and friends who live in those areas, let them know! We’d love the support. And if you want to give them a little Well-Paid Maids elevator pitch, here ya go:

Well-Paid Maids is a living-wage home cleaning company. That means they pay cleaners — who are W-2 employees — a starting wage of at least $23/hour. Cleaners get benefits, too, like insurance and 24 paid days off per year. Now, you don’t have to feel bad hiring a professional cleaner to help you out!

For more information or to schedule a cleaning online, head to our website.

Calling all doughnut lovers! Handcraft Doughnuts is making small-batch, handmade, fresh doughnuts in D.C.

Handcraft Doughnuts is the creation of husband and wife team Kara Terrell and Ike Emejuru. The couple began their wild journey into the pastry world after their love of travel and adventure led them to some very unique pastry experiences. It turns out that their most memorable experience was in Kenya, alongside a beautiful giraffe named Daisy.

The couple enrolled in a local doughnut-making class and two years later, the rest was history.

Handcraft Doughnuts is led by Executive Pastry Chef Jared Rubin. Rubin has held pastry stints at some of the most prestigious bakeries and cafes in New York — Michelin-starred Gramercy Tavern and Meadowsweet, and Bouchon Bakery to name a few.

Handcraft, with its 24-hour raised brioche dough, prides itself on simplicity, using the freshest ingredients, developing all in-house recipes and toppings, and creating doughnut magic.

Online ordering and in-person pick-up are now available from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. from Thursday through Sunday on handcraftdoughnuts.com.

If you haven’t treated yourself to a professional home cleaning yet, we’re sure you’ve got a good reason… right?

Here at Well-Paid Maids, we’ve heard them all. And while we absolutely respect your opinions, we’re here to tell you why they’re wrong.

We’re only joking, but we do believe everyone deserves to get their home professionally cleaned, so let us ease some of your worries.

The reason: “Cleaners aren’t treated fairly.”

The reality: This is a valid concern with some cleaning companies, but at Well-Paid Maids, our cleaners are W-2 employees. We pay cleaners a starting wage of at least $23 an hour, and we offer benefits, including insurance, 24 paid days off per year, 100% employer-paid commuting costs and more.

The reason: “My house is a disaster — I’m too embarrassed.”

The reality: We’re all human. We’ve been there. There’s nothing you should be embarrassed about. If your house was sparkling clean, we wouldn’t have our jobs!

The reason: “It’s fine. I should be able to handle it.”

The reality: We totally get it. You might feel guilty hiring someone to help you out. After all, your parents never did. But here’s what we forget: We’re more busy now than ever, and we can all use a little help.

The reason: “I work from home.”

The reality: With Well-Paid Maids, you don’t have to leave your home when we come to clean. In fact, we often say Well-Paid Maids is the best cleaning company for remote workers.

You can book an appointment for an exact time — not an hours-long estimated window. We send one person, not an entire team, and we can easily work around your needs. If you don’t want your home office cleaned, all good! If you have a meeting at noon, we can move to the other end of the house.

The reason: “I have pets.”

The reality: Great! We love pets and pet owners! We don’t charge extra for homes with pets. If you have any specific pet-related directions for your cleaner, just drop a note during the booking process.
