This photo is of course the famous Wonder Bread building on the 600 block of S Street, NW. Sadly, there has been no movement on its development. It is such amazing building:
Do you think the developers are just waiting for the economy to get better? Or is there a larger issue at play in the lack of development?

“I frequent past this sign on the way to and from my fiance’s place and thought this would be something you’d like to have on your blog. Sadly, the proclamation on the sign isn’t true… the store has been closed for a couple years now, but I hear that the owner’s trying to open it up again soon. If he is, there’s a LOT of work to be done w the store before he can open it up for business again.
This is on 3rd and M St, NE”
Coldest Beer in Town is among the greatest proclamations I have ever read in our fair city.
A commenter mentioned that there are tons of sweet city signs on H Street, NE. And indeed there are. I thought this sign was particularly amusing because Ohio is not generally considered the south. But as I was checking out this spot I noticed that there was a permit in the window.
It seems this spot at 14th and H Streets, NE is slated to return to a functioning restaurant. Apparently it will be called Radius at the Ohio and will be a restaurant with a summer garden and sidewalk cafe. This spot is very close to the great Argonaut restaurant/bar so that section of H Street will be particularly sweet.
This one was caught by m hoek who titled it, “we need more painted wall signs”. I couldn’t agree more.
I spotted this sign on H Street, NE and got a bit of chuckle. That’s insane, right? 23 Hours? I wonder what happens during the 24th hour…
I love this old school sign from the liquor store on Calvert Street in Woodley Park. If memory serves, I think they saved this sign from their original location across Connecticut Ave.
So I see “Money Order” is one way, “DC Lottery” is a second way, but what’s the third way…? Any Cincinatti fans out there? Imagine if they had Skyline chili?
Oddly, it was outside of the old State of the Union on U Street which hasn’t seated anyone for quite a while…

But this one on 13th Street really cracked me up. I thought it was particularly funny because the lawn is elevated way off the sidewalk, making it highly unlikely a dog would crap there…
