“DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson released the following statement after District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) this afternoon released their Initial Budget Allocations for Schools for FY2024.

“Once again, the Chancellor is traumatizing public schools by proposing substantial budget cuts,” Mendelson said. “In testimony before the Council earlier this week, the Chancellor minimized the chance that any schools would see substantial budget cuts. Update from MPD: “Prelim info for sounds of gunshots in the 3900 block of Chesapeake St, NW-suspects in 2 vehicles exchanged gunfire. There is no active threat at this time. Ongoing investigating. School was placed on lockdown for precautionary measures.”

GoGo dance party fundraiser September 24th for the reigning DC champion Mckinley Tech track team

The Mckinley Tech track team is the reigning DC champion and needs to raise funds for buses to compete against Maryland and Va. To that end, they’ve partnered with the highly popular GoGo Fitness and will host an exercise/dance party on the lawn at the high school. “Starting Wednesday, March 16, masks will be optional for students, staff, and visitors in DC Public Schools”

“Throughout the pandemic, DC Public Schools has implemented a layered approach to limiting the spread of COVID-19 in our schools, anchored in the guidance provided by DC Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Earlier this week, DC Health released updated guidance for educational facilities. Under the new guidance, masks are no longer required indoors or outdoors at schools when COVID-19 community levels are low based on CDC metrics.

Consistent with this guidance and the current low levels in the District, starting Wednesday, March 16, masks will be optional for students, staff, and visitors in DC Public Schools, DCPS offices, and on OSSE-DOT transportation. This policy will apply to all school-related activities. (more…)
