These pop ups are located on Monroe Street, NW just west of 14th Street. I think we may have looked at the one on the left before but it looks like the one on the right is nearly completed. Thumbs up or down? Do you prefer one over the other?

“Dear PoP,

The building at the corner of Sherman Ave and Park Road is a pop-up that needs to be judged, but, more importantly, from the dumpster that recently appeared out front, it looks like they recently restarted work on the building. Any ideas on what it’s going to be? Can any of your loyal readers help shed some light?”

A number of readers have recently inquired about this building. I believe someone said it is going to be a church. Can anyone confirm? As for judging the pop up, I think it looks awful. The material seems to be plywood and no windows have been cut yet. But if the external material matches that of the material below it may be decent. But sadly, I’m not very optimistic about this property. You guys?

We looked at the cool angled one to the right back in February (located on 15th Street across from Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park). But now the one featured here is really starting to take shape. I guess the real question is what will the surface be – brick (like below) or vinyl? If it’s red brick it should look pretty good especially since it’s on a slope. And I still think the angled one on the right is going to be pretty sweet as well. Do you think this one featured in the photo above is going to look good?

I think it’s interesting to look at some of the historical pop ups (?) when we judge modern pop ups. I think this row looks super cool. Would the home in the middle be considered a pop up? What do you think of the look of this row? Dang, I can’t remember what street this is but I think it’s in Shaw or Bloomingdale – anyone recognize it?

We’ve judged this pop up before to mixed reviews. But as I was walking past it last weekend something jumped out at me. It looks like it is also wider than the adjacent homes. Is that just an optical illusion. But if it is wider, how did that happen? It doesn’t seem like to rowhomes were combined into one. Am I losing my mind or is this home also wider than the others?

This one is located at 2713 Ontario Road, NW in Adams Morgan. We once spoke about it way back in the day. But I was stunned to see that it is still for sale. So I checked out some photos on redfin and it doesn’t look bad at all inside. So my question is – can a pop up look so bad from the outside that you’ll have an extra tough time selling? Or do you simply think they are asking too much ($569,999 for a 2 bed 2 bath 2 level condo)?

Wow, I think this one came out really well. Interestingly the brick has no windows but the addition does. Can someone explain to me again why the side that is brick doesn’t have any windows? I think it is safe to say the pop ups that are recessed are the best. Plus they get a nice little deck out of the recess. I also think the wood is pretty cool as well. Do you think the wood comliments the brick? Overall, what do you think – thumbs up or down?

This is from 11th Street. You may recognize the pop up on the right which I’ve featured before. If memory serves I think it got fairly good reviews from you guys. So it appears the neighbor is looking to keep up. Do you think this’ll be a new trend of houses next to pop ups getting pop ups of their own?

This rowhome is located on 15th Street right across the street from Meridian Hill park. I know it’s not completed yet but I was struck by the angle on the pop up. It looks like it might be pretty cool. What do you think – too early to tell? If not, thumbs up or down?
