From a reader:

“Having been given the distinct honor of being named “House of the Day” not too long ago, we decided to share this with you all. We’ve joined our neighbors over at the Obama DC headquarters in showing a little Florida Avenue support.”

“Would it be possible to get a blog debate sometime soon so that we can hear what everyone thinks of all the candidates running for the different DC positions?  Not a debate with the candidates themselves, obviously, but just to hear the readers opinions on them…  Everyone makes comments here and there, but there’s never really a lot of substance or support really.  Your blog has so many well read and intelligent people that I think it would be cool to give them the open forum to discuss the reasons they’re voting for who they are, while giving the opportunity to ask questions as well.”

So for your particular Ward and Council at Large which candidates have a platform that you most support?   What are the issues that are most important to you.  How did you decide who you were going to support?

It manages to be peaceful and militant at the same time. Was this a common slogan during the Vietnam War era?

Is it just me or did it seem like John McCain was channeling Jack Nicholson’s Col. Jessup in the film A Few Good Men? Tell me you can’t see McCain reciting these words:

“Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago’s death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you are entitled to.”

ThePost’s Wire blog is reporting former DC Council Member Harold Brazil’s arrest last night at a Georgetown tattoo parlor! Insane.

The Post says:

“Brazil, 59, entered the Jinx Proof Tattoo shop in the 3200 block of M Street NW with two women, one of whom went to the back of the store to receive a tattoo, police said. When Brazil tried to follow the woman, an employee told him only customers were allowed in the work area, which prompted an argument and then a fight.

It took three employees to subdue Brazil before officers were called at about 7:30 p.m., authorities said. He was arrested and charged with simple assault and taken to the 2nd District police station, said Assistant Police Chief Diane Groomes. Authorities released Brazil with a citation and a summons to appear in court at a later date, officials said. Brazil could not be reached for comment.”

I noticed that there were some signs for the upcoming school board election. We spoken a lot about schools before but it occurred to me I have no idea what the elected school board does.

So can anyone explain what this (I assume) important board actually does? Also what would be the different positions of the candidates for the board?
