This school offers ballet classes to those 5 and up. It is located at Georgia and Delafield.

What is going to go in right next to the Wendy’s on Georgia Ave.? It certainly looks like a prime location…

How has your experience been at the Petworth Post Office at 4211 9th St.?

A reader writes: “I just had another terrible experience at the post office (4211 9th NW). I’m wondering if I’m the only one who has bad luck there.

I tried to send a portable/personal dvd player today and asked if the woman could bubble wrap it for me. She said “No.” After waiting for a reason or maybe an alternative and not getting one I asked why. She said she didn’t have any. “A cushioned envelope?”. Nope. When I asked how I was supposed to ship the dvd player she said I’d have to find another post office.

I moved to the neighborhood about 5 months ago and have been elated. Walking on air… The neighbors are great, the kids have been considerate, the gas station people are nice, the restaurant owners are gracious. I understand there are other, more important issues that need addressing (crime)… but really, is it too much to ask to have a decent post office?

Ours is fine if you want to mail a single white envelope that you already have the stamp for. Otherwise, you’ve got to find another post office.”

What are your thoughts?

Beveragemania located on Upshur St. a few doors down from Domku is now open. They have ice cream, espresso drinks, floats, hot chocolates, hot teas, and more. For the moment they are open between 7am and 11pm but ultimately they will be open 24/7 with an order out window between 11pm and 6am. Let me know your thoughts. Inside photos after the jump. (more…)

This spot on Shepherd near Georgia was a “Care to Speculate” feature back in the day. Thanks to a reader for alerting me, we now have an answer. It is going to be a Nigerian restaurant. Sweet! I’ve never been to a Nigerian restaurant before, it’s a really big space so hopefully it will be really cool.

I saw this ad in Craig’s List asking $900,000 for a house in Petworth. It says the location is Georgia Ave. and New Hampshire Ave. I can’t think of a house around there that could possibly go for 900k but more power to them if they can get it.

Thanks to a reader for alerting me. I’m not sure if the wall won or the car won. I’m guessing the wall won despite some cosmetic injuries.

A reader is interested in setting up an “orange hat” patrol around the Petworth Metro to try and deter future muggings.

She writes: “I’m getting a little frustrated with the inability of the police to, well, police New Hampshire avenue. A few weeks ago, after lurking through yet another debate on the Petworth mailing list about yet another mugging, I posted about the possibility of starting up an orange hat brigade to walk the Metro-up-New-Hampshire corridor, and got a few
responses but not an overwhelming number. This doesn’t have to be a lifetime committment: it seems like trying
to do this for a month could have real impact.”

If you’d be interested email Lisa at [email protected]

Ed note: I’m not sure if you’ll actually be issued an orange hat but I think it is a great idea.  I would suggest that you try to coordinate with MPD though.
