I’m super intrigued about this one because it is so close to the Petworth metro. It is located at 3810 8th Street, NW. The flyer says it has 5 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. In the remarks it says: “Spacious and light filled…within a 10 minute walk of Petworth Metro. Many improvements have been made including upgraded kitchen and baths…Fenced in rear yard with 2 car parking…Property is being sold “AS IS” however shows well.”

Curious that they say within a 10 minute walk of metro because it’s really a two minute walk to metro if that. But anyway, what you’ve been waiting for $550,000. I know people are going to go nuts but remember how close it is to the metro. Now have at it, good deal or not?

Next time you’re at the Looking Glass Lounge at Georgia and Princeton I insist you get this. For $6 get a Berry Shortcake made up of raspberry, blackberry, whipped cream and a fresh biscuit. I don’t even really like desserts and I ate it in about 32 seconds.

On the completely opposite side of the spectrum Gridskipper had a listing of its top 10 most overrated restaurants in DC with Lauriol Plaza topping the list. Hilarious. What do you think is the most overrated restaurant in DC?


Nice! This stand is located in front of Red Derby at 14th and Quincy but I’m pretty sure there is another one a bit further south on 14th near Park. It is arguably the perfect snack.


See for yourself and make your voice heard at a meeting Monday night. I saw the following on the Petworth Listserv:

“The National Capital Planning Commission will be hosting a public meeting regarding the proposed development of the Armed Force Retirement Home Monday night at 6:30pm. The AFRH are proposing to build at 9 million+ SF development along Irving Street, Park Place, Rock Creek Church Road, and North Capital Street. This is as large as the Pentrgon, or 10 DC USA’s, and will bring the equivenant of 2 Nationals ball games of traffic into East Columbia Heights (Pleasant Plains, and Park View) and South Petworth.

There is a lot of support in the District Government, Congress, and National Parks service to create a public park, much like Atlanta’s Peidmont Park or Brooklyns Prospect Park in Park Slope, instead of more condos to the land along Park Place, NW. This would still allow for significant development, but reduce the amount and provide much needed green space to an area that is lacking it now, but we need residents to come out to support this concept.

Located right on Harewood between Rock Creek Church Rd. and North Capitol, the Old Soldier’s Home Cemetery is a very moving place. It is like Arlington Cemetery in many respects. There is the heartbreaking sight of rows and rows of simple white grave stones. These grave stones have soldiers that fought in the Civil War, the Spanish American War, World War I and II and many others. It is a very humbling place. I went on Sunday when I was the sole visitor. Moving does not begin to describe it. I have a few friends who’ve served in Iraq and a couple who are still serving and I have to remind myself of the sacrifice they and so many others are making. We become numb to the newspaper reports after a while and I think that is why it is so important to visit this place and pay your respects.


This home at 19 Rock Creek Church Rd. is going for $385,000. I was unable to find photos on line but it looks pretty sweet from the brochure I picked up. The pamplet does say it is a “fixer upper”. So would you pay $385,000 for a fixer upper on Rock Creek Church Road across from the Old Soldiers Home?


This house on Rock Creek Church Road always makes me smile. I used to walk my dog past this house every morning and afternoon and the elderly gentleman who lived here always had kind words to say every single day morning and evening. So I was saddened to notice that it is for sale. Some of the older residents are truly the hidden treasures of our communities, it always saddens me when I see their houses going for sale. It is amazing how much better these bodegas look without the bullet proof glass. Pictured here is Bisrat Mekuria, owner of the Family Foods Market, located on New Hampshire Ave., right across the street from the Petworth metro. I give him mad props for having the courage to take down the bullet proof glass. I’m totally stoked. It feels so much more human. I wish him much safety and success.


I did a double take when I saw this sign at the Rock Creek Church Cemetery. Apparently it is a commercial lease. The building is wicked cool and all but, um, it’s in a cemetery. That would be an odd spot for your new office space, yeah?
