I was overjoyed back in April when I wrote about Family Foods Market removing their security partition. I nearly cried when I walked in on Friday and saw the security partition had returned. I spoke with one of the cashiers and she couldn’t exactly explain why the partition returned. She said something about the customers telling her that it should return but I find that very hard to believe. She did mention that there are some kids that throw things and such when they get angry which is very unsettling. But I’m so sad that they didn’t feel safe enough to keep the partition removed. I’m sure if I had to walk a mile in their shoes I’d feel differently. I’m just saying that was like a super tease, removing it for a month and then putting it back up. Damn!

as I was admiring it an elderly gentleman came out on his stoop and was talking to me for a bit. But what was the greatest was upon departing I say goodbye and he replied – God bless. I love how you hear the old school say God bless. It is also like when I exchange pleasantries with some matronly types – they often say “hey baby” or “hey sweetie” in such a kind genuine way. These are the small things that make up the beautiful life.
Thanks to a reader for sending me a link to this Washington Post article.
The article starts: “On the back patio of the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker House at 503 Rock Creek Church Rd. in the District’s Petworth neighborhood, sacks of potatoes and onions lay next to crates of tomatoes, green beans, cabbage, lettuce and broccoli. Further down, tables brimmed with bread.”

I’m not sure if the roof deck was rented or not but there was some sort of party going on this past weekend. I think it was a birthday party. Pretty sweet spot. Note to self – have a future PoP happy hour on the Sweet Mango roof deck. Right?

Back in October this wall was struck by a car. They finally fixed it and it looks fantastic. I’m glad they used the nicer stones rather than the cinderblock that you can see to the right of the photo. You can see what the wall looked like before it was fixed here.

I’ve never seen one of these that has a level at sidewalk level. Looks good though.

This is the building at 3910 Georgia Ave next to the Wendys. This sign says it seeks to become a medical facility with other related retail and housing above it. Alright. Although it also says there will be 120 off street parking spots, that seems like a lot, yeah? (more…)
Exiting the Petworth metro this afternoon I was handed a flier announcing Papa John’s grand opening at 1417 Otis Place. Until May 31st you can get a large 2 topping pizza for $10. 202-667-7272 Wild. But I guess the question is: If you can get delivery from Moroni and Bros. why would one ever get Papa John’s? I guess that garlic dipping sauce is pretty damn delicious.

It looks like they recently got a new paint job. The media center is located on Georgia Ave. just south of Upshur. Apparently it is an internet cafe among other things but it always seems to be closed when I walk by. So has anyone been here or no what the deal is?
