Domku of course is located on the 800 block of Upshur just east of Georgia Ave.  Mmm, free drinks…  From an email:

Don’t forget to join us tonight for our Very Partisan Election Watch. Starting at 7pm, for every 25 electoral points in Obama’s favor, prices on Rogue, Jever, and house wines will drop by 25 cents. If Obama wins, there will be a round of free drinks for 10 minutes following the win. Seriously.

I found this photo on flickr looking for Clark Elementary, though this one is actually in Flint, MI  I think it gets the point across.

So I know some folks are tired of getting asked what they’d like to see developed because they feel like they don’t see any results. Well, I actually feel quite differently. It takes an awful long time for certain development projects to occur and the input from the community can help entice certain businesses to commit.

I received word from a developer that Clark Elementary School located at 4501 7th Street, NW is up for disposition. It was suggested that I solicit suggestions from you guys. Like I said I think this is a great opportunity for us as this is a pretty large site which sits on 5.5 acres.

So what would you like to see here – another school, a park, ball fields, a coffee shop and restaurants/bars, affordable housing, market rate housing, or of course the famed chocolate shop? Put any suggestion you may have in the comments.

I know lot of readers are into Yoga so I thought it’d be interesting to get a get quick impression from a participant.

Now that it is getting cold out, and I was starting to get burned out of my triathlon-training-oriented exercise routine, I decided to head north on 14th Street and try out Quiet Mind Yoga. I have really enjoyed all their classes. The instructors are great, and the studio has a good vibe. Everyone is friendly, and the classes are not too crowded. I always hated doing yoga at the gym and being squished tight with other people. How can you relax when you can’t do a pose without bumping into someone else? The one drawback of Quiet Mind is its location across the street from the fire station. It can be challenging to achieve a zen state with sirens going off periodically.

Aside from location how does one decide on chosing a particular Yoga Spot over another?

While we’re talking about about Yoga, I received the following email from another great Yoga Spot – Yoga House:

I was wondering if you’d be willing to post about the $5 community classes 6:30-7:30 on Fridays at Yoga House (http://www.yogahousestudio.com), which is right above Temperance Hall. Student teachers (like me) volunteer our time to the community in return for a $5 donation to Yoga House to defray the studio’s costs. There are two classes — Kundalini and Vinyasa. It’s a great way for people to check out the studio or a new form of yoga. I’ll be there this Friday – drop by before the Halloween festivities so you can leave your work week behind and build energy for the weekend! More after the jump. (more…)

From an email:

“Those of us on the Petworth Dogs listserv would like to invite all our neighbours to the:

Petworth Dog Walk Halloween (flier)
a costume celebration of dogs and owners
Wednesday, October 29, 7pm @ Domku

Contestants – meet at the Clark School @ 6:30pm (7th and Alison) to wear out your favorite pooch, before suiting them up in a great costume. From there, we’ll walk our bedazzled best friends down to Upshur Street where they’ll be judged on:

  • Best Doggie Costume – the classic, dress ’em up!
  • Best Twins – celebrating how dogs and owners can look alike
  • Best Trick – Costume or not, show your dog’s skills

The Domku patio will be the reviewing stand and the post-parade party spot.

Feel free to print out copies of our flier and take them with you when you’re out walking through Petworth. When you see a dog + owner, hand them a flier and encourage them to come out as a participant or observer.

A special thanks to our sponsors: Domku, Brighter Days, Little Rascals, and Yoga House Studio, and the Petworth Dogs listserv for making this happen.

Here’s an interesting house at 23 Rock Creek Church Road, NW. The flier says:

“LOOKING FOR A GOOD DEAL? TRY THIS ONE! (Pre-approved) home with a sep. car garage in the rear. full basement, 2.5 baths, MAKE YOUR BEST OFFER (SOME RECENT DAMAGE OCCURED DUE TO TANK OVERFLOW). check prices in area and then compare, good opportunity for the right buyer.”

More details can be found here.

Wow, “some recent damage due to tank overflow” is a bit terrifying, yeah? But the price reflects it – it’s yours for $325,000.

The original asking price was $399,900. Does the new price of $325,000 seem reasonable given the damage? (Here was a house on Rock Creek Church a few blocks away for $419,000.)

From an email:

Maybe you can put something on the POP to encourage supporters!”

Without your support the arrival of YES! Organic Market to be located at Taylor and Georgia will be in jeopardy. So please get writing! Or testify if you are able. Thanks.

So there are two vacant store fronts on this section of Georgia Avenue that is slated to have some new development (see rendition above). It has come to my attention that there is likely to be a restaurant in one spot but the retail for the other spot has not yet been chosen. So here is a phenomenal opportunity to make your suggestion known.

Would you like to see a bar along the lines of the old Temperance Hall or Red Derby here?

Would rather have another restaurant or deli?

Or would you like some other type of retail like a garden store, hardware store, clothing store, or some other type of retail that I haven’t mentioned?

It’s looking like this section of Georgia Ave. is going to be hopping!
