“Here’s a photo of some people on the street responding after the recent ‘boom’ heard on 3&L. I was on 4&L when it happened, definitely felt a small shockwave. We walked back up so our friends could check on their house, but then turned away so were weren’t walking towards the blast. All the students in that dorm were on their balconies and people were all coming out of their houses to investigate.”

polaroid_foto_bar_union_station

Thanks to a reader for sending word about a Polaroid Fotobar coming to Union Station:

UNION STATION – Washington D.C.
OPENING – JULY 2013

The reader writes it’ll be located in “the space will be at the end of Union Station by the McDonalds (obviously, from the reflections in the pic!)”

Engadget explains that it is:

where you can go and have your digital photos professionally printed…each staffed with so-called Photenders to help you get the best results, and equipped with a “patent-pending proprietary technology” that’ll let you wirelessly transfer photos from your phone to a workstation. What’s more, the stores won’t just be producing glossy photos, but what Polaroid describes as handcrafted pieces using canvas, metal, acrylic, wood or bamboo — those will be shipped to the customer within 72 hours.

Sounds cool.

MBT_trail_assault_bike

A reader writes around 6:15pm:

Lots of cops swarming the area from the NoMa metro to the dc schools building at 3rd and R St NE. Apparently three people jumped a cyclist and beat him. When I walked by I could see a fair amount of blood and the victim had obvious head wounds. They just took the victim to the hospital by ambulance.

Ed. Note: We last talked about a cyclist assaulted on the MBT trail in Feb. 2013.

@TonyTGoodman tweeted the news last night:

Moe’s Southwest Grill’s website says:

Founded in December 2000 in Atlanta, Ga., Moe’s Southwest Grill is a fun and engaging fast-casual restaurant franchise serving a wide variety of fresh, made-to-order southwest fare.

The first thing you’ll hear when you walk into the restaurant is an enthusiastic “Welcome to Moe’s!” It’s more than a greeting; it’s a way of life for the folks who customize each meal fresh to order right in front of the guest.

While Moe’s is best known for its burritos packed with a choice of over 20 fresh, flavorful ingredients, the menu also features kid’s, vegetarian and low-calorie options. And all meals are served with free chips and salsa.

We believe in delicious simplicity, which is our way of saying we’re committed to serving only the highest quality ingredients 100% of the time at 100% of our locations. The fully customizable menu proudly boasts all-natural, cage-free, white breast meat chicken; steroid-free, grain-fed pulled pork; 100% sirloin, grass-fed steak; and organic tofu. At Moe’s, there are no microwaves, no Trans fats and no msg.

Food quality, safety and customer service are no joke, but aside from that, Moe’s tries not to take itself too seriously. For fun, the folks at Moe’s gave each menu item a unique name like The Funk Meister taco, Homewrecker burrito and Billy Barou nachos, to name a few, just to keep things interesting.

And the music at Moe’s is also a good conversation starter. If you listen closely to the tunes playing at any Moe’s restaurant, you’ll notice all of the songs are performed by dead musicians to honor the sweet sounds of the artists who left us too soon.

You can see their menu here. Currently Moe’s has DC locations at 1331 Pennsylvania Ave, NW and 470 L’Enfant Plaza East. Anyone ever eat at one?
