2404 Wisconsin Avenue, NW

From an email:

Slate Wine Bar + Bistro is excited to announce that we are joining the Glover Park community later this summer! We will be located at 2404 Wisconsin Avenue, formerly home to Kitchen 2404. Slate will be a neighborhood restaurant that is also a destination for wine lovers of all levels of knowledge and experience. Daily specials, pairing advice, and flights will be supplemented with a wide-range of educational and entertaining wine events, including winemaker dinners, tasting seminars, wine clubs, escorted trips to wine regions, and more. The Bistro menu will offer an array of snacks including cheese and charcuterie, along with heartier fare such as soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees and desserts. The menu will change seasonally and will be supplemented by daily and weekly specials from the freshest local ingredients with the goal of complementing the wines. For non-wine lovers, we will have a great selection of craft beers and cocktails. Slate is a project by Wine Investment Group, LLC. Owner and Wine Director, Elizabeth Banker, and General Manager, Mark Krieger, look forward to welcoming you when we are ready to open our doors.

2317 Wisconsin Ave, NW

Back in April I mentioned that pho was coming to Glover Park. I’m excited to share lots more details I got from the owner:

We are officially Sprig & Sprout (Pho and Viet Sandwich Shop). The reference being all of our dishes are served with some kind of Sprig (basil, mint, cilantro) and bean Sprouts.

We are looking to open our doors for a soft opening around the beginning of September. During this time we encourage a lot of comments and suggestions to help us iron out any kinks.

The style of our restaurant is “Fast & Casual” but we wanted to keep options open to our guests. Our main floor has an open kitchen and is meant to be used for the quick eats. Here you can order in line, then watch as they prepare your food for take-out, or grab a table and a runner will bring your dishes to you. For anyone who wants to relax a little longer our upstairs fully stocked, laid-back bar provides full service.

Our hours of operation are everyday from 11am to 10pm.

I’ve actually just gotten back from a trip to Vietnam where I worked with two chefs to get a range of education. Hopefully I’ve gathered some good secrets!

Sweet – stay tuned for September!

A reader sends the following from craigslist:

Friends and Neighbors,

I’m desperately asking you for your help.

On Tuesday night at approx. 10:30pm, my chihuahua Freckles was attacked and killed outside of my house on the 2400 block of Tunlaw Rd, NW. in Glover Park.

She was standing on the ledge in my front yard when she was snatched by another dog walking down the sidewalk with its owner. I struggled with the dog for about 20 seconds, but by the time I was finally able to pull her from his mouth, it was clearly too late. When I ran up and took her inside my house, the owner and dog continued on their walk. He didn’t try to restrain his dog, he didn’t try to help me pry her from his dog’s mouth, and he didn’t even bother to wait around, and he’s yet to come back.

I’m asking you for your help in locating this man and his dog. If anyone recognizes the description of this man and/or dog, I am begging you to please let me know.

Owner: Tall, thin, older (maybe 50s or 60s), light colored hair, white man
Dog: Large, between the size of a weimaraner and a great dane. Long, lanky legs, very tall, with a dark colored body and white head.

They were walking southward down Tunlaw Rd, towards Benton St. If anyone happened to see a man and dog who fit that description walking around Glover Park at around 10:30pm on Tuesday, or if you know who they are, or if you see them again, please please let me know. If this dog has already been deemed “dangerous” from a previous attack, then it should have never been out without a muzzle in the first place. If it hasn’t been deemed dangerous, it needs to be. A dog this vicious does not need to be on the streets where it could do this sort of thing again to another animal, or God forbid, child.

I never want anyone to have to go through this. Thank you so much for any and all help. Please reply to the email address above if you have any information. Thank you again.

1815 Wisconsin Ave, NW

Looks like another Noodles and Company is planning on opening at 1815 Wisconsin Ave, NW where the former Einstein Bagels was located before the massive renovation/new construction started. In Dec. 2011 Noodles and Company opened their first DC location in Woodley Park in the old Sake Club space at 2635 Connecticut Ave, NW. The Woodley Park location took 8 months to open from when the zoning process first started there. So, at the earliest, we’re probably looking at a winter opening for the Wisconsin Ave location.

The retail space at 2317 Wisconsin Ave, NW has been vacant for years. It’s great to see someone, District Noodles, finally moving into the space near the Whole Foods in Glover Park. According to a liquor license application, it will be a:

“Fast casual Vietnamese restaurant with a seating capacity of 50 and total load of 99.”

There was a significant renovation going on when I walked by but when they open we’ll be back to check out their Pho.
