Payless Shoes is located at 1777 Columbia Rd, NW. Not sure if you can tell from the photos but this is a beautiful building. Lots of potential here given the prime location. It’ll be very interesting to see who takes over this space. I wonder if it’ll go the Game Stop route or the Mintwood Place route?

The Washington Area Bicyclist Association headquarters is located at the corner of Ontario and Columbia Rd, NW but the bike lane on Columbia Rd doesn’t actually start until a block away at 17th and Columbia. Whenever I bike past their headquarters I think there’s gotta be something wrong with this…

“Dear PoPville,

Have you heard anything about a van that was set on fire in the alley behind Fuller St (also behind Mozart place) last week on 11/10/11 ~1130pm?

I know for a fact there was police activity in the alley earlier in the night because the van (which had VA plates) was subject to vandalism (someone apparently shattered all of the windows of the van with rocks but didn’t take anything).

I also know for a fact that the same van was engulfed in flames around 1130-12am. Took the fire dept some time to get it put out, and the van was removed in the morning.

Doesn’t seem like a coincidence that the same van was targeted twice on the same night, with the second incident being very severe.

I know that the Christ House vans were subject to vandalism recently–shattered windows also. Not sure if the incidents are related.”

Lots of folks have written in about this van fire – I haven’t seen any follow up reports from MPD. Anyone else hear what happened? Learn the cause?

Whew, this has been a tough one to find out fact from scuttlebutt

Finally word comes from the Adams Morgan BID:

“We learned last week that SoHo – Southern Hospitality – will be coming to the former Adams Mill Bar and Grill location at 1813 Adams Mill Road, NW. They will specialize in American fare with $10 small plates and $20 entrees to include salmon and filet mignon among many others.

They hope to be open in mid-December, depending on construction and permits, and look forward to being a part of the Adams Morgan community!”

Well, someone is happy that a Panera isn’t coming to this location:

This great mural in Adams Morgan’s Walter Pierce Park captures 10 years of living in the neighborhood by muralist Aniekan Udofia. As the years pass, the mural continues to get updated.
