Sweetlife Festival 2011 was an excellent fusion of cross-genre musical performances, fresh food, and great people! As I made my way through DC to meet up with my oh so lucky concert going guest du jour at his house on U street, I saw the sidewalks filled with groups lugging coolers and sporting their finest music fest worthy threads towards the different shuttle pick up locations throughout NW. Note to self for next year, sign up for the party buses!

As this was my first time at the Merriweather Post Pavillion, I was pleasantly surprised by easy layout of the venue tucked away in a beautifully green space in Maryland. We made some stops at the various tailgates going on in the parking lot before making our way towards the stage. Without hesitation I made a bee-line to the pit for one of the acts I was most excited for, Theophilus London!

Dear PoP – Serious Problems at 9:30 Club Will Call Last Night

“Dear PoP,

So I ordered two tickets separately from TicketFly.com to the Yelle concert at 9:30 Club. One came in the mail. The other they told me I had to get from will call. Right now, I’ve been waiting 45 minutes to get into the Will Call window at 9:30 club for the concert. This is ridiculous considering what I paid. The only excuse is poor mismanagement of the will call windows. This is completely unacceptable.

I’d also like to add that we did get through the line in enough time to see Yelle (who was absolutely amazing). Yelle started late and I suspect management asked them to do so because of the line. If that was the case, I very much appreciate that.”

I can imagine this was super frustrating at the moment. Personally I’ve never had problems before. Have others had bad experiences with 9:30 Club’s will call pick up? How long does it normally take to get your ticket(s)? Is 45 minutes wait time for Will Call unreasonable?

The 5pm Post – Rhythm in NoMa Expands to 2 Locations, 20 Weeks

Get ready to groove to the music, as NoMa’s concert series has grown to two locations and 20 weeks. Rhythm in NoMa is a free lunch-time concert series featuring a variety of local musicians and styles – from blues to reggae, and top 40s hits to smooth Motown favorites. This year, concerts take place in two locations: New York Avenue Metro Plaza at Second and N Streets, NE, on Thursdays, and Union Center Plaza at 810 First Street, NE, on Fridays.

Buy lunch at one of NoMa’s local retailers, and enjoy the live music while you eat. All concerts are free, running from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Continuing a tradition of support to community-based, independent cinemas, Bruce Springsteen and Columbia Records have once again partnered with Emerging Cinemas and the Atlas Performing Arts Center to offer a widely acclaimed Springsteen film charitable screenings in Washington, DC.

The Promise: The Making of Darkness On The Edge of Town will receive a special theatrical run at the Atlas as part of Emerging Pictures’ network of community-based cinemas, performing arts centers and independent art-houses as a benefit screening and fundraiser.
