Thanks to a twitter user for the heads up. I spotted the artist working on it today and it turns out it is one of my favorite muralists – Joel Bergner. You can see a profile I did on Joel here. I’ll be sure to update when it is completed.

This was recently painted on the side of 2608 Georgia Ave. Though it’s still not clear exactly what the new business is inside. It never seems to be open when I walk by. I do love this mural though.

New tavern coming to 501 8th Street, SE on Barracks Row. The alcohol license says it will be a tavern featuring regional and seasonal combinations of local seafood with recorded music. The occupancy is 49 with an additional 32 for the sidewalk cafe.
In the meantime check out the murals adorning the building after the jump. (more…)

I thought this was rather fitting for the upcoming 3-day weekend.

Highlands located on 14th Street, NW between Crittenden and Decatur got some great new art. And the coffee was really good too! Not a bad place to hit before or after going to the Upshur pool (around 14th and Webster).

It has changed an awful lot since I first posted. A reader mentioned that the rowhouse section (photographed above) looks particularly good. Hells yes. Now I enjoy and appreciate murals all over town but I think this is the absolute best one I’ve seen. So cool that it was done by students. If you haven’t checked it out yet, take a detour, it is well worth the trip.

Thanks to PoPville Flickr user Crosb for snapping some great shots of the event. The event took place last Saturday:

These came out pretty sweet. The Rec Center is located on Warder Street near Otis. More murals after the jump. (more…)

We looked at this mural and spoke with the lead teacher a couple of weeks ago but it is looking really good now. I’d say it’s 90% finished. It came out even better than I expected. Based on all the emails I’m receiving it’s seems most are in agreement.

More photos after the jump. (more…)
