This great mural is from the side of the Sewell Music Conservatory on Kennedy St, NW. I especially dig the mix of old and new.

I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to notice the mural on the side of the Fringe building at 607 New York Ave, NW.

I love how two of the stars on the flag are structural reinforcement stars attached to the building:

MuralsDC to Hold Art Exhibit Featuring Mural Works Tues., Sept. 6

Kicks Off New Website at www.muralsdcproject.com

MuralsDC will conclude its 2011 program with a unique art exhibit featuring replicas of each of the, mostly “graffiti-style”, murals installed during the program and other works by MuralsDC artists Tuesday, Sept. 6, 6:00-9:00pm, at 1300 “H” Street, NE (the former R.L. Christian Library). The free event will also feature live art by a local sculptor.

MuralsDC was launched in 2007 as a means to deter graffiti. The program, coordinated by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the DC Department of Public Works, and Words, Beats and Life, positively engages District youth by teaching proper art techniques and respect for public property. Eight new murals have been installed this summer in Wards 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

WHAT: Graffiti Mural Art Exhibit and Live Sculpture Performance

WHEN: Tuesday, September 6, 2011, 6:00-9:00 pm

WHERE: 1300 “H” Street, NE (former R.L. Christian Library)

“Dear PoP,

A couple of weeks ago I walked by as they were painting a new mural on 8th St SE, i.e. Barracks Row. It is on lower Barracks Row towards the highway. I’m not sure what the building is, something to do with a band I think, there is not really good signage. The finished mural is pretty cool. I attached a pic. Thought you might like it.”

Awesome! Looking forward to checking it out. (Thanks to all who sent emails about this.)
