Back in Feb. we saw Blue Moo was coming to the former Marvelous Market space at 4530 Wisconsin Ave. NW. Glad to see they opened.
Their Web site says:
Welcome to Bloo Moo Premium Frozen Yogurt Shop! We serve only the best of the best of frozen yogurts and toppings. All of our yogurts are labeled with the LAC seal. LAC stands for Live and Active Cultures, which means that all of our frozen yogurts contain at least 10 million cultures per gram! There are many benefits of live and active cultures.
Scientific research shows that the live and active cultures found in yogurt may offer many more health attributes, on top of the great nutrition basics. Researchers are exploring how live and active culture yogurt may have a beneficial effect on the immune system, the potential to lower cholesterol, and how it may help combat certain types of cancer-causing compounds, particularly in the digestive track. Few foods help meet your nutritional needs at every stage of life better than live and active culture yogurt. And because it comes in so many flavors and varieties, yogurt appeals to every member of the family!
You can see a list of their flavors here.

NBC Washington reports:
“The original location of a longtime D.C. fave, Armand’s Pizzeria, will close its doors June 30, News4’s Shomari Stone first reported.
At this point, the six other locations will stay open, but it would cost $200,000 to keep the historic flagship location running.”
Armand’s Web site says:
Welcome to Lew Newmyer’s original Armand’s Chicago Pizzeria. Back in 1969 Lew Newmyer, inspired by his youth spent in Atlantic City, opened a sub and sandwich shop in Washington DC. In 1975, Lew, after traveling to Chicago experienced deep dish pizza. At that time no one in the DC area offered deep dish Chicago style pizza. Lew and his sons spent months working closely with many people in developing their own dough and sauce recipe.
Today, over twenty five years later, that recipe and Armand’s expanded menu offerings are famous and still growing. A perennial Washingtonian Magazine award winner for “Best Pizza”.
With eleven area locations including full service restaurants, party rooms and Express Delivery stores, Armand’s continues to be a Washington area favorite. Our unique recipes and friendly staff are what truly make the Armand’s experience great!
Any fans of Armand’s?

Thanks to a reader for sending the heads up about the Ruby Tuesday abruptly closing at the corner of Van Ness Street and Wisconsin Ave, NW. Of course, not many will shed a tear…but some will.
Stay tuned for an update when a new tenant is signed.

Thanks to a reader for sending the word that:
“4912 Thai located at Fessenden and Wisconsin reopened as Tanad Thai run by the son of the original owners.”
Tanad Thai is located at 4912 Wisconsin Ave, NW. In Jan. 2012 we noted that there was a lot of love for 4912 Thai which was closed after it’s retail license was suspended.

“Check out an open mic night every Sunday at Public Bar at Tenley at 8:00pm. This is a free show and we are open to including musical acts. Sign up information is displayed on the attached flyer.”

At first I thought the Tenleytown’s Z Burger was launching a new Sandwich shop at 4321 Wisconsin Ave, NW. But trying to find info on line brought up an old post from Chowhound with a reader noting back in 2008:
“there’s also a sandwich place next to that is going to open up, I believe? Sandwish or something?”
I peeked inside and it still looks set up for an expansion:

There is even a menu:

I called the store and they told me that they don’t know if the sandwiches are coming. They might still be focusing on their new SW location and their “coming soon” to Columbia Heights location. But they were told that sandwiches could still be coming.
The menu says the sandwiches are all $4.19. If they ever do launch I wonder if that price will still apply… Do you think they should expand into sandwiches or just stick with burgers?

Bloo Moo Frozen Yogurt is coming to the former Marvelous Market space at 4530 Wisconsin Ave. NW. Huge space for Frozen Yogurt but I guess they do offer lots of flavors. Looks like this is their first location.

Dear PoP,
Do you know what’s happening at the former Chanya Thai restaurant in Tenleytown (you had a write up about it last July)? It seemed to close down shortly before the holidays and recently the entire front of the restaurant has been removed to reveal the original façade of the building – thankfully, since the add-on was just terrible! Any news about a new tenant or will Chanya return after the building modifications. I had a couple of take-out orders from there and the food wasn’t bad, but I have to admit that whenever I went in to pick up my food I was glad I did take-out since the interior was kind of weird.
Thanks to everyone who wrote in about the Cava Mezze Grill coming to the former Simply Ayzen/Chanya Thai restaurant space at at 4237 Wisconsin Ave, NW in Tenleytown.
Ed. Note: I also received scuttlebutt that a Cava Grill will be coming to Columbia Heights as well.

Thanks to a reader for sending an update on Al Forno Pizza coming to 3201 New Mexico Avenue, NW by Chef Geoff’s. It will now be called La Forchetta. The reader writes:
“Apparently someone claimed they were already using Il Forno as a name.
The ANC struck a deal on liquor permit, and they’re supposed to open in March.”
