“Dear PoP,

I live near the boarded up church on 10th & V Streets and noticed what seems to be a recently crumbled outer wall on the top floor at the back. You can see it in the top of this iPhone snapshot taken from the alley. This must be a horses ass contender.”

I absolutely agree with you, this property has been vacant way too long. And the extra crime here is that the potential is astronomical. This is such a beautiful building. I’d love to hear from the owner of this one.

The Craigslist ad says:

“• Large Bedroom & Bonus Den/Office/2nd Bedroom
• Approx 900 Sqft
• Hardwood Floors Through Out
• Recessed Lighting
• Modern Kitchen & Appliances
• In Unit Washer Dryer
• Central A/C & Heating
• Fenced in back yard
• Spacious Deck & Patio”

Does $1900 sound reasonable?

I’m not sure if this project at 1909 12th St, NW is still happening because their web site is no longer active. But if it does, here’s the rendering:

And the pop up we’ve been monitoring nearby at 1923 12th St, NW is progressing nicely:

Well, I’ve never seen circa 1978 construction highlighted in a listing before… Do you dig the look? Does $799,000 sound reasonable for this 4 bed/3.5 bath?

The pop up at 2212 11th St, NW seems to be progressing nicely.
I think we looked at this a few months ago, but I’m afraid I can’t find those photos.
At this point are you feeling positive or negative about the renovation?

Well it’s been a year and a half since I said the Carter G. Woodson House deserves better. The home is located at 1538 Ninth Street, NW and its Web site says:

“On February 27, 2006, the building was officially dedicated as the Carter G. Woodson Home National Historic Site, the 389th unit of the National Park System. The National Park Service will be restoring the building and developing a visitor center for the historic site.”

Well this is new:

“Dear PoP,

I recently heard that what I thought was a welcomed new residential building is intended to be a boarding house once the renovation is complete. This is the large gutted red-brick building across from the playground near the corner of P and 6 St: 605 P. St.

Here is a link to the petition: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/605p/587602937/taf. There was a hearing last night with the local council member at the JFK community center at the corner of P and 7th at 7PM.

This could be a huge set back for the Shaw neighborhood and those nearby.”

Wow, they set up a whole Web site about this property.

City Paper’s Housing Complex reports:

“DCRA director Linda Argo—who said that there appeared to be much “confusion” over the process. She dispatched chief building inspector Dan Masoero to last night’s meeting of the Convention Center Community Association, where over the course of a 30-minute sparring session, he firmly told neighbors that the developer was fully within his rights and inspectors had found no problems on the site.”
